Summary

Polly Waterford is recovering from a toxic relationship. Unable to afford their flat, she has to move miles away from everyone, to a sleepy little seaside resort in Cornwall, where she lives alone above an abandoned shop. And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favourite hobby: making bread.

But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local bee keeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes.... And people start to hear about it. Sometimes, bread really is life...and Polly is about to reclaim hers.

A light Hearted read

This is the first Jenny Colgan book that I've read and I really quite enjoyed it. I'm glad I didn't read some of the other reviews before or I might have missed out on a good light hearted book.
It is an easy listen to story with a gentle story of love and life and all its ups and downs.

Poorly written and narrated

After my last experience of a Jenny Colgan book I had vowed never to listen to her again , however in my search for some escapist chick lit with a coastal setting I discovered this and decided to give it a listen. What a waste of a credit. The writing is appalling, the plot is unbelievable, the characters are hugely annoying and the narration lacked any enthusiasm.

best yet

Where does Little Beach Street Bakery rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Loved it...quite highly as the story sits with me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Little Beach Street Bakery?

I think the misery of failure was described very well as was the grief/anxiety waiting for the boats strongly told.

Have you listened to any of Anne-Marie Piazza’s other performances? How does this one compare?

she's very good - some of the accents slightly off but I couldn't do better!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

yes I had a few tears here & there!

Any additional comments?

I've enjoyed all these books - the story lines are a little Mills & Boon as they get their strong armed, toned chested young man...but the actual people studies are good - Jenny Colgan is a good story teller and that's what you want when you read/listen to a book...it's to escape and to be entertained! Also there is no graphic sex as per some of the other chick lit books, which I cannot bear!

The Little Beach Street Bakery is the perfect summer read. It combines wonderful visuals of Cornwall alongside heady descriptions of baking aromas. What more could a woman want? Well worth a read and you will soon be heading off to the local supermarket for yeast and strong flour......

What was one of the most memorable moments of Little Beach Street Bakery?

The first night alone in the bakery was well described..

What does Anne-Marie Piazza bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She reads with perfect pace...

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A mouthwatering literary treat!

Brilliant, funny, warming book. Great for relaxing

Bought this book as a daily deal, which was great as I would never have found it otherwise! It is a thoroughly enjoyable listen with the voices done so well which makes it so escapist.
One of those books that strikes a chord within - who hasn't dreamt of starting afresh when their life collapses around them?
