Lana can't remember a time when she wasn't hopelessly in love with Akira. Even knowing that he viewed her as a kid sister had never helped to dampen her feelings. One night together only made it worse. After seducing Akira, it became apparent that their love affair was hopelessly one-sided, and heartbroken, Lana fled her beloved island paradise. Eight years later, Lana finally returns home, planning to stay briefly, and only for business, but her plans go quickly awry when she runs into the man she could never get over.

"Robotic Narration, Thin Storyline."
I really enjoyed reading the Mile High series by the same author. Lilley can write a decent story, peppered with the right amount of provocative erotic scenes.
This novella is not Lilley's best work. The story feels rushed, and yet has aspects that feel skimmed over.
It doesn't help that the narrator appears to be reading the story for the first time. Her inflection is completely off, and she reads the entire story in a very monotonous tone of voice. I don't believe that audio book narrators have to be proficient with accents or voices, but I do enjoy hearing emotion and life in a story...this was like listening to someone reading a school textbook for the first time.
The characters could have been fleshed out more - though then I imagine it couldn't have been called a novella.
A different narrator could make this a more enjoyable listen.
When I listen to a book through Audible, I expect a certain level of professionalism. I don't think the narrator has to "ham it up", but they need to sound as though they at least enjoy their job, and like reading books.
"Snoozeable and Unlikeable"
I thought the premise of this story would be great. However, the heroine/victim not only begged the man to take her back, she got into a fisticuffs over him with his ex. A fisticuff--at age 28??? Ridiculous. Unfortunately, I also slept part of the way through the book. Lana's issue was that the man she loved was not going to marry her so she leaves Maui to experience life. When she returns she is supposed to be a sophisticated person but she flashed the hero and plays with herself while he is watching. I only thought, what a way to debase one's self. The main conflict was that there was racism in her marrying a Hawaiian man-it was frowned upon for such a wealthy man to marry a white mainlander even though she was well loved by his family. I could I could only think--welcome to what the mainland is for all the other minorities. Horrible book--weak woman. I don't understand what he saw in her. I also understand why the family might not want him to marry such a weak person irregardless of race.
"I WANTED IT TO BE SOOOO MUCH MORE...."
I put off listening to this novella because the reviews were unimpressive. I finally went ahead and bought it and I'm sad to say I was quite unimpressed also. The story was rushed, skipping over details and rushing the ending. It left some things unanswered. The angst was not there like in most of her books. The narration was off also. It wasn't a good fit at all.
I love this novella bit wish that was a stand alone novel.the best ever beautiful without saying
"Good story, not great story teller."
It was a great way to hear the story of Lana after getting bits and I eves with the other series of James and Bianca and Tristen and Dannika. However, I preferred the narrate toe of the other two books much more. I could hear this one taking a breath after every few words and she came off way too cutesy for a tall, elegant blonde goddess. Particularly the sex scenes, they just sounded silly and rehearsed, hard to lose yourself in it.
Lana was definitely one HOT read! Enjoyed learning more about one of James' closest friends. HOT HOT HOT!! Loved it!
