The happiest day of Payton Lambert's life was the day she graduated high school and watched Bald Knob, Kentucky, get smaller and smaller in her rearview mirror. She wanted more for her life than a tiny town where everyone knows your business and you can't find a decent cup of coffee for at least 40 miles. Twelve years later an unexpected phone call in the middle of the night has her packing up her life in Chicago and racing back home to the one person she ever regretted leaving behind.
Upon her return she sees that Leo Hudson, the scrawny boy who had followed Payton around like a puppy and could recite cow insemination facts in his sleep, is long gone. Leo is still hot on her heels, but now he's wearing a sheriff badge and dead set on solving a murder that may or may not involve Payton, along with half the town. In a town where the biggest crime happened the day someone kicked a few of his cows, people are pointing fingers, rumors are spreading like wildfire, and Payton swears she's only making out with the sweet-talking, studly sheriff to distract him from the secrets she's keeping.
When you've been tased, peed on by a yippy dog named Bo Jangles, and can't stop picturing what Sheriff Hudson looks like naked, it will be a tough job making everyone agree that Jed had to die.

Coffee Mug: A good friend knows how you take your coffee...A great friend adds booze!
The publisher's summary is spot on with plenty of detail which drew me to this book and reviews telling how hilarious it is.
If you haven't experienced small town living think of something like 'The Andy Griffith Show...Mayberry RFD.' Everyone knows everyone and they're all over each others business. This is why Payton left Bald Knob, Kentucky and moved to Chicago where she opens a coffee shop named Liquid Crack.
Payton receives an emergency phone call and returns to Bald Knob to help a friend. A few days later her friends husband 'Jed' is found dead. The hilarious investigation and antics of Payton and girl friends begin....
As I said this book is hilarious, there's also a hot sexy relationship with the sheriff (all I'm saying about that, you have to listen :), fun, mystery and girlfriends bonding and supporting each other.
Tara Sivec has a great sense of humor, fun, and laughter in her writing.
Amy McFadden gives a very funny, comical, hilarious performance.
Worth a credit/$$ Absolutely. I'll listen to this book over and over.
"What a happy surprise!"
When I give a 5 star review it's because the book is a classic and I'd recommend it to anyone or it surprised the crap out of me and earned the stars in its genre. This book is the latter. I often enjoy the cozy mysteries between reading more hard core thrillers. There are a lot of good, fun cozies out there, but they do become formulaic and predictable. Jed Had to Die broke the pattern. It's hilarious. The way the story develops between the main actors and the townspeople was a brilliant way to tell the tale. It's also got smexy scenes, downright very cozy. So, if you like coffee, enjoy sarcastic humor, and throw in a little mystery, quirky characters and a hottie this is a good book for you.
"Hilarious and Intriguing"
Jed Had to Die is a clever, funny, sexy, high-energy read that kept me laughing and guessing until the end. Tara Sivec never disappoints. Her brand of comedy plus chemistry plus intriguing mystery is always a home-run. But the coffee cup sayings may have been my most favorite part of the entire story!
"Molly Harper + The Dixie Chicks"
Take Molly Harper's wit and locales, add the black humor of "Goodbye Earl" from the Dixie Chicks, and the character of Felony Melanie from "Sweet Home Alabama," and you've got the basic structure of "Jed Had To Die."
But as much as there are many aspects of this romantic mystery that are reminiscent of other works, it stands on its own as an original. "Jed Had To Die" is warm, funny, and sweet. And I highly recommend it.
And Amy McFadden? Perfect!
I would listen to this book have to I laughed out loud
NO WAY! this author is one talented writer to bring this story it breaks the stress of everyday life. Laughter sooth the soul!!

The story was cute as all heck, the characters hilarious and funny. Leo like the icing on top, sweet, smooth and mouthwatering.

"Small town filled with mystery & boisterous comedy"
I had no expectations going into this book, but after finishing it, I am thoroughly fulfilled. It was hilarious through and through. I really enjoyed the first person point of view and the extra little police interviews that never failed to give me hardy belly laughs. I was surprsied with how well the elements of humor, romance, mystery, and sexiness were balanced throughout the entire novel.
Big fan of the narrator! I'll admit I hit replay every time she said "muskrats!"
"Drinking games, hot guy, dead husband"
This story was so much fun to listen to. The narration was fantastic! Had to laugh out loud at all of the drinking game words. Throw in one hot geeky guy turned stud muffin and it bacame a match made I heaven. I loved the ending. Everything was rounded out really well.
