Publisher's Summary

Twenty years ago, six Penn students shared a house, naively certain that their friendships would endure - until the death of their ringleader and dear friend Bea splintered the group for good. Now, mostly estranged from one another, the remaining five reluctantly gather at that same house on the eve of what would have been Bea's fortieth birthday.

But along with the return of the friends come old grudges, unrequited feelings, and buried secrets. Catherine, the CEO of a domestic empire, and Owen, a stay-at-home dad, were picture-perfect college sweethearts - but now teeter on the brink of disaster. Lindy, a well-known musician, is pushing middle age in an industry that's all about youth and slowly self-destructing as she grapples with her own identity. Behind his smile, handsome plastic surgeon Colin harbors the heartbreaking truth about his own history with Bea. And Annie carefully curates her life on Instagram and Facebook, keeping up appearances so she doesn't have to face the truth about her own empty reality.

Reunited in the place where so many dreams began, and bolstered by the hope of healing, each of them is forced to confront the past.

"Saint Elmo's fire meets the Penn Quakers"

Old friends are really worth the effort. That is the essential message of this novel. Allison Winn Scotch and Julia Whelan are a formidable new team. As always, Ms. Whelan makes a good book a great listen. Ready for a screenplay, the story will entertain you throughout and have you reflecting on your own long-term friendships that may need some rekindling.

    "Sooo Good!"

.... friendship, careers, marriages, love, loss, LIFE. The people they were, who they are now.
This book shows family made of individuals and the power of how the family we choose for ourselves makes us who we become and can bring us back when we stray

The narrator did a poor job with the male voices. It would have been better with two different narrators.

    Story
"Beautifully Written story of life, the gritty part"

This book was not at all what I expected. It was gritty and honest, and spoke of the ugliness of the cost for pursuing your dreams. But it was also insightful and hopefull, acknowledging that all was not really lost in life. That hindsight and humbleness and forgiveness are helpful in making amends with yourself and those who truly matter.
It was a great, thought-provoking book and I would recommend it to anyone.

    Story
"Where will you be in 20 years?"
What did you love best about In Twenty Years?

Bea's letter was filled with love and wisdom and so much more.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Annie's character breaks the fantasy life she thought she needed....wanted. I think most of us think our fantasy life is a much better life than the one we live, when the one we live is all we have so make the most of it.

Which character – as performed by Julia Whelan – was your favorite?

I enjoyed Bea's character the most.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

One life CAN make a difference.

"I liked the story much more than the characters"

This was an interesting storyline and could have been a pleasant change from the books I usually listen to, if the characters hadn't been so immature, and belligerent. There were several times during the book that the way they talked, yelled, and cussed at each other made me very irritable while listening. I'm really in the fence about recommending

"Language a bit painful at times."

The story line was interesting, but GD was used so many times you would think it was a war story.

This novel helps reminds us of the impact of our past on our present and future selves. It gives the reader a nudge into self awareness.
