"The story save this one"
The narration was absolutely and positively AWFUL. Doesn't anyone listen to these narrators before releasing these audio books. This one was saved by the storyline.
"Historical Romance with a twist!"
Love the story of a family with special "gifts" helping a man who's family is possibly up to no good. I enjoyed this because is wasn't too much special. Just a little extra help to help us through life, may it be forsight, vision of a pending danger or just a little know-how out of the ordinary to keep you from turning that corner where the evil person lies in wait for...is definately the type of person, er...family that I want on my side!
I truely enjoyed this one, and I'm looking forward to the rest. I will say that although I've listened to other books narrated by Ashford and had no problems at all, this one seems that she was a bit off her rythm. She's wonderful with the female parts but the male characters all seem the same and very stiff. Not much inflection on their emotions other than, stern. But I still liked the story and will listen to the rest. Maybe she'll get into the swing of things later...we'll see!
"STORY: GREAT!! NARRATOR: ???"
I'm a true fan of Hannah Howell and her writing talent is outstanding. So WHY Ashford MacNab??? There are so many others that would make this story so much more enjoyable. I'm sitting on the edge of a decision to-buy OR not-to-buy! Because it's a continuation and I enjoyed the story so much, I guess I'll suffer through one more and maybe...just maybe it'll be better. Ashford MacNab doesn't have the ability to successfully distinguish the voices of the characters. Many times, I had to carefully listen to the subject of conversation to be sure who was talking. I certainly don't mean this to be disrespectful, but Ashford MacNab is at the very bottom of my choice of narrators list. Tis a pity...it's truly a GREAT story!
"Great Story with full of adventure"
It rank about 8... and Ashford Macnabb does such a great job you cant put the book down...
I would compare Hannah Howell books to Shirlee Busbee. I fine that book writers write with adventure and excitement.
Chloe and the little boy Anthony
I have listen to several books by Hannah Howell and she truly is a good listen and she is a great writer...
"Attack of the robot"
The story is good, though I have not been able to finish it, as the narrator is a bit like nails on the chalkboard for me. Hannah Howell is a good writer, not too formulaic for a romance novelist. The beginning of the story draws me in, but she looses me a bit towards the middle. TBD if it gets better towards the end. I think I might have to read it instead of trying to listen to it if I want to finish it.
Leo...just, seems yummy.
At first, I didn't think she would bother me, but she is monotone and her sentences are so clipped, she sounds like a robot. It is driving me up the wall! I figured she was no Anne Flosnic during the sample, so decided to give it a go, but how no one told her, "Hey, when you awkwardly pause after ever sentence, and give no tonality to the words you are saying, it makes me want to hit you in the face with a brick," I have no idea. Don't let the sample fool you, it gets worse.
Not really...not that it isn't good enough, but I am not sure how Chloe or her talents would transfer...
I wish I could recommend this, as it is an intelligent book, but the narrator is awful.
"Good story, so so narration."
This was a pretty good story. I really liked the heroine, she was funny, witty and smart, not the whimpering, simpering chew on bottom lip heroine. The hero was okay too, I would have liked him a bit more sexy and arrogant, but not a bad arrogant. The H and H did have some good chemistry and there are some nicely written sex scenes, not to graphic, just the right amount.
The story line and plot were very good. The villains were definitely villains! Oh my... they were bad. LOL
There as so much dialogue throughout the entire book which was fantastic. (I like lots of dialogue)
I really liked some of the secondary characters as well. Looking forward to Leopold's book for sure.
As for the narration. It was just okay. The narrator seemed so monotone and a bit robotic throughout the entire book. She really needs to put some emotion in her voice. The men sound like men which is good but still some emotion would be great.
"Horrid narration but great story."
I struggled with this narrator. She loses her inflection with most of her voices. Some of the editing is poorly done.
"All the men sound like robot"
The storyline is ok but all the men's voices sound like I'm listening to robots. Very distracting. Very annoying.
"If He's Wicked"
Good mystery done in the regency times, with a touch ESP tossed in to help with plot! Hope to enjoy others.
"One series to read/listen!"
Ashford MacNab does a good enough job of it. Though she does mix up her characters voices some of the time.Man for woman and Leo for Julian a couple of times.
In the paperback copy I did find the scene where the mother "Evelyn" and aunt "Mildred" try to help in the end a little funnier. They do make a good team.
All in all it was good!
Now to the next one in the series.
