I love Scots and Highland books, and I must say that this book was no different. I enjoyed the way the story flowed, there was not much romance between Aidan and Lleas which suited me just fine. There was so much description to the landscape and the ancient ways that I really enjoyed. I will be reading the rest of this series.
I really loved James Gillies' Scottish brogue. He did a great job with all the characters. I especially liked his reading of the old woman's dialogue, but he also did very well with the children's voices.
One of the most memorable moments was at the end of the story, when Aiden battled Lilly's brother-in-law for his mistreatment of Lilly. Very exciting!!
My favorite scene, actually, was the birth of Aiden's and Lilly's daughter.
I wanted to listen to the book in one sitting, but that wasn't practical. I finished it in about three days.
Great story and entertaining performance! I can't wait for the next one in the series!
"What a book! What a voice!"
I definitely recommend this book! Why? The story is really good and listening to the amazing voice of James Gillies makes it even better. He brings it to life with passion.
I think the end is memorable. It is a twist I didn't expect. Loved it.
I loved the book as a whole, my favourite is where Lileas and Aidan are in his chamber on their wedding night.
I can say I practically did with one or two breaks, I listened well into the night and next morning on the way to work.
I think it was a great choice by the author to have James Gillies tell her story. Wonderful story told by a passionate voice. I am looking forward to listen more.
"A MAGICAL MEDIEVAL HIGHLAND ROMANCE"
As your swept back in time to 1125 and deposited in the Scotia King's Chamber where trusted Advisors and Chieftains meet to decide how to stop the rebellious Highland Tribes, curses, witchcraft, the Campbell curse and Lileas, a beautiful but cursed pawn in their dire plans.
Then, as the plot unfolds to the rugged and magical mist filled hills and glens of Northern Scotland where the huge, fierce, handsome Warrior and Chieftain Aidan and his Clan folk live and protect an important secret Stone. That is where Lileas is forced to go, must make her home, be wed and betray everyone..... but things, thankfully, don't go as planned.
This was a well-written, action-packed, fast-paced, entertaining and enjoyable listen as Lileas and Aidan fight against mistrust, curses, family, a mysterious illness and their growing feelings towards each other because both have higher responsibilities - one's a small son and one's a Clan's welfare but both are at stake. There's folk lore, magic and mystique, betrayal, treachery, envy, greed, lust, passion, secrets, faith, sex and, despite everything, love.
Worth a credit? Desire, drama and destiny all beautifully described held me captive and the plot's many twists and turns together with all the interesting and likeable characters, the language, the lifestyle and love makes this, IMHO, a very creditworthy listen.... well all that and it's swoon-worthy painted hero.
Wasn't sure I'd like this book in the beginning but there was enough meat to it I kept listening. It wasn't long before I was totally engrossed and by the end I didn't want it to stop. Very good writing, good narration, interesting story line that isn't cookie cutter highland romance. I will definately be looking for the next book in this story.
"Too long and repeating"
I guess, even though the story stretches, it's still interesting
, yes, as I said before still interesting story
This is my first book of this author, not bad....
But also not great, though I'm spoiled by Suzan Tisdale, Victoria Roberts, Willa Blair, Amy Amy Jarecki and ladies like this.
The book is a little too stretched and partially repeating, therefor I'll give it three stars.
The storyline is great though.
"Too much time tending the sick and injured."
the next book, the novella, is better. going to the next one in order. it should be good.
Added a plot, climax and an exciting ending!!
Really no story, no excitement, no twist or turn and struggled to keep my attention.
"FELL ASLEEP SEVERAL TIMES TRYING TO FINISH THIS"
The narrator did a great job with the voice, however, the story seem to drag on and on.. Not much of a romance if you ask me but it did have great details on history. I was disappointed though. This should have been in another genre other than romance.
"ROMANCE JUST OKAY!!"
The Stone of Destiny!! Aidan dun Scoti's Sister Lael, Sorcha and Catriona.
The Narrator was the best part of this story!! Very Good Narration by James Gillies!!
