Summary

Fern’s warmth, insight and humour combine to deliver a hugely enjoyable novel that will speak to women everywhere. Read by Fern Britton Helen Merrifield has said goodbye to her philandering husband and her swish West London house to live in an idyllic country cottage in the heart of a postcard-perfect village in Cornwall. Putting the past behind her, Helen throws herself into country life and soon makes a new set of eccentric friends. To her surprise, Helen finds herself the love-interest of two very different men: the kind, gentle, desperate-for-love-and-sex Simon, and the darkly enigmatic local historian Piran. Whilst Helen is getting to grips with her new life, her oldest and dearest friend, Penny, a hot-shot TV Producer, has decided that the village is the perfect setting for her new TV series.

When the cast and crew descend, two worlds collide, and Helen is thrown headlong into 5am wake-up calls and temperamental celebrities. In the midst of all this, Helen stumbles across a forgotten old tin chest full of Edwardian treasures. Who do they belong to? Will the unpleasant historian Piran help her to find out or will Simon have the key? As Helen finds herself the focus of Simon and Piran’s attentions, it looks like her ex-husband is planning to put in an unscheduled appearance. Will Helen embrace the future, or is it too difficult to let go of the past?

I loved every minute!x

Wanted to read this none stop n needed matchsticks to stay awake cause I didn't want to stop at any point of the story.Ferns voice narrating was so easy to listen to and never over took the storyline.Quite a few giggles along the way & it gave me a feeling of being beside the seaside or sat in a small cosy local pub or wherever Helen (I would say the main character but each of the other characters had a much needed & adored personality within the story)was at that point! There were lots of different sides to the book.Warm n glowy love story, funny parts, good country community aspect & plus the 'hidden treasure' story that unravels within the daily lives of the folk in the village.Definately loved everything about this book & am a positive convert to Fern Brittons' style of writing.A+++++++++ Dii x

A relaxing feel good read.

loved 5he story . The performance would have got 5 stars but found it irritating that the word Chapter 3 etc cut in before the last word had hardly finished! needs a pause in between chapters. makes it feel rushed. .however a good story.

Enjoyed the story

I enjoyed this story but it was spoiled by the narration. This was rushed with hardly a pause for breath, even between chapters. I tried slowing it down but that just made it so slow it was unbearable.

A mellow meander

A pleasant read with nicely described characters set in a cornish village. Beautifully read and kept me listening.
