Eager to find her place in the world and understand the frightening gifts she's been born with, Jessalyne Brandborn leaves her sheltered life to become apprentice to the most powerful sorceress in Shaldar. She hires Ertemis, the deadliest man in the realm, to get there.
With the Legion's bounty on his head, dark elf Ertemis is reluctant to escort Jessalyne but needs the money she offers - especially if he's ever to find out who his father is. On the way, he discovers benefits to Jessalyne's naiveté; she treats him like an equal, not an outlaw.
Swayed by Ertemis' gruff charm, Jessalyne starts to trust him and her emotional walls begin to crumble.
Little do they know that within them lies the hope of the dying elven race, the renewal of Shaldar's beleaguered kingdom and an incredible chance at love. If they don't kill each other first.

"Another great author/narrator collaborative hit"
Kristen Painter's writing with B. J. Harrison's narration are always an unbeatable hit. Just the right amount of intrigue, tension, action, villainous acts, and love all rolled up. Then to top it all off, the incredible narration and distinction of voices done with just the right inflection and emotions. Job well done.
Wow! I'm at a loss for words. This book is so different than Kristen's other work. She never ceases to amaze me. I mean I have tons of favorite authors, but Kristen has a unique gift. She can write a story in any genre and be a superstar of it. I have yet to read anything of hers that I haven't loved. These characters in this book were so full of life. Very well developed with an amazing world. The hero was so dark and so hunky in a very dangerous sort of way. A bad boy with a big heart on the inside. The hero and heroine balanced each other so well. She was the light to his dark. There were moments I wanted to cry, times I was so angry, and so many time I was laughing so much due to something funny the heroine said. She was a delight. I can only imagine how scared she was of hurting someone with her ability. Yet she also had the gift of healing. I don't want to say too much to give anything away. I loved how it ended. Gosh, I wish I could do it justice but I can't find the words. This was such a unique book. I wish everybody would read it or listen to it. It would make a great movie. I wish she would write a sequel. Read it, you won't be disappointed. It will capture your heart and transport you back in time to another realm. I don't know how to spell the name of the place the elves lived but it was described the way heaven would be. It can only be accessed by opening your heart. And it's such a breathtaking place. The narrator brought this book to life. He is my favorite narrator. Such a great gift of doing voices. I could listen to him all day long.
Loved this book, so happy with how it turned out for all the characters! Loved BJ Harrison's narration as well!
"I love a Painter/Harrison combo!"
I really enjoyed this story. It is quite different then the other Kristen Painter books I usually read. I.e. Her Nocturne Falls and Jayne Frost series. It was nice to see a different side to Mrs Painter! This is about Jessalyne a sheltered woman who finds out she is not who she is suppose to be. She hires a deadly man Ertemis to escort her, which is not something he really wants to do. This is a great fantasy with mages and elves! i also absolutely love the way BJ Harrison narrates, the voices fit perfectly with the characters!
"Heart of Fire"
I did not want to stop listening to this book. I was sucked right in from the first words spoken and adored the narration by BJ Harrison. He does another amazing job with this book.
I adored Jessalyne, she has had such a hard life but has become such an amazing and brave woman. She doesn't allow Ertemis to get away with anything.
BJ Harrison is an amazing narrator and his narrations are always amazing. He has never produced a book I haven't enjoyed his narration.
I had so much trouble putting this book down. I just wanted to keep listening to BJ Harrison reading this story.
This book is seriously amazing I loved it and was constant listening.
"Fantasy and Romance merged seemlessly"
Yes. Kristen Painter merges fantasy and romance with a well rounded world and complex characters. The story moves at a natural pace, and the fantasy doesn't overshadow the romance nor the romance overshadow the rest of the story or the fantasy aspect of the story.
For me the most memorable moment of Heart of Fire is at the very end of the book. You'll have to read or listen to know what happens as I don't want to spoil the story.
My favorite scene is when the pixie gets her wings back.
I laughed, I cried (more than a little). This book has a whole complement of emotions that tug at your heart strings and engage you in the book
Love this book lots of romance and action. Great characters would highly recommend it for reading or listening.
And I do love the sound of the narrators voice. He is a very good narrator the different voices he use are wonderful!!!
