Eager to find her place in the world and understand the frightening gifts she's been born with, Jessalyne Brandborn leaves her sheltered life to become apprentice to the most powerful sorceress in Shaldar. She hires Ertemis, the deadliest man in the realm, to get there.
With the Legion's bounty on his head, dark elf Ertemis is reluctant to escort Jessalyne but needs the money she offers - especially if he's ever to find out who his father is. On the way, he discovers benefits to Jessalyne's naiveté; she treats him like an equal, not an outlaw.
Swayed by Ertemis' gruff charm, Jessalyne starts to trust him and her emotional walls begin to crumble.
Little do they know that within them lies the hope of the dying elven race, the renewal of Shaldar's beleaguered kingdom and an incredible chance at love. If they don't kill each other first.

absolutely love this book the narrator is easy to listen to and the storyline keeps you mesmerized throughout the book really worth a listen
Kristen Painter makes me want more and more of her characters once again! Heart of Fire has the perfect amount of romance vs villains. She ties it all up with history between secondary characters giving us a double happily ever after!
"I love a Painter/Harrison combo!"
I really enjoyed this story. It is quite different then the other Kristen Painter books I usually read. I.e. Her Nocturne Falls and Jayne Frost series. It was nice to see a different side to Mrs Painter! This is about Jessalyne a sheltered woman who finds out she is not who she is suppose to be. She hires a deadly man Ertemis to escort her, which is not something he really wants to do. This is a great fantasy with mages and elves! i also absolutely love the way BJ Harrison narrates, the voices fit perfectly with the characters!
"Another great author/narrator collaborative hit"
Kristen Painter's writing with B. J. Harrison's narration are always an unbeatable hit. Just the right amount of intrigue, tension, action, villainous acts, and love all rolled up. Then to top it all off, the incredible narration and distinction of voices done with just the right inflection and emotions. Job well done.
"ROMANCE AT ITS BEST"
I LOVE ALL OF KP'S BOOKS AND TRIED THIS ONE TO SEE IF I WOULD LIKE THE CHANGE. IT WAS WELL WORTH THE CREDIT BUT I HOPE SHE COME OUT WITH MORE NOCTURAL FALLS AND PUTS THEM ON AUDIBLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
The romance in this story is wonderful. There's an instant connection betwen the two main characters but since they struggle to see any good in themselves they cannot fathom that one could actually love the other. I enjoyed their good and bad moments between obvious affection to terrible misunderstanding that eventually blossom into a strong trust and deep love.
I really liked the story line. I was disappointed in the last chapter the last scene could have been better.
"A very charming Fantasy Romance"
This book was exactly what I hoped it would be, a charming love story, two characters I liked a lot, due to the story line and surprisingly entertaining dialog between the sexy Ertemis and the feisty Jessalyne. There are twists and turns that make the story interesting along with an excellent cast of characters to support the couple's story. I was never board and was sorry to see it end. B.J. Harrison is narrator who knows how to enhance the story with her voice, kudos to her excellence!
This was actually an impulse buy that turned out to be an excellent story and narrator. It's nice to finally listen to a story that isn't completely caught up with graphic sex every other chapter. The author actually concentrated on building the romance and relationship of the main characters . The sexual tension is definitely there but unlike other stories I have listened to lately it's a romance not erotica. I was able to listen to the entire book with out skipping past the literary porn. I'm definitely going to look into more from this author.
This is a great book written by Kristen Painter and narrated by B.J. Harrison. Eager to find her place in the world and understand the frightening gifts she’s been born with, Jessalyne Brandborn leaves her sheltered life to become apprentice to the most powerful sorceress in Shaldar. She hires Ertemis, the deadliest man in the realm, to get there. Swayed by Ertemis’ gruff charm, Jessalyne starts to trust him and her emotional walls begin to crumble. Little do they know that within them lies the hope of the dying elven race, the renewal of Shaldar's beleaguered kingdom and an incredible chance at love. If they don't kill each other first.
The narrator B.J. Harrison did a wonderful job with this book. He did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
"Heart of Fire by Kristen Painter"
I listened to this book via audible. It was enthralling and entertaining.
I liked the heroines naivety and her perceptiveness at the same time. I admire how she befriended everyone she met and made them feel better or richer having crossed paths with her. And on a deeper level, the cross race acceptance was commendable?
A romance where good triumphs over evil and love conquers all. And magic can be used for good. Lovely.
