Despite my slutty reputation, I was technically a virgin at 18. The faint positive on a budget pregnancy test sent me spinning moments before meeting my sister's snooty new fiancé. Shaking hands with upper-crusty James was like downing a triple shot of vodka. Dizzy with desire, confused by my body's reaction, and shocked by the possessiveness flashing in his eyes, I deceived him that night and told the world at their wedding reception. The truth? I slept with my sister's fiancé. Hot and sweaty, all night long in a room so dark he couldn't tell I wasn't her. The lie? Said fiancé is the father of my child. The one I signed over my rights to just before he was born. That was seven years ago. It's time to come clean.

"I didn't want it to end! Love narrator!"

The love story!
No, but loved her narration!!!
Definitely a great one!
This was such a unique story. I could not stop listening. I did not want this book to end. Audible needs to get Elise Alden's other books because I think they will be just as good as this one. You won't be disappointed. This was my first time hearing Carmen Rose and I think she did a fantastic job!
"4.5 Stars~Twisted, intense, captivating love story"
Paisley, the main female protagonist, does some despicable things in this story, which nearly caused me to stop reading, but it also intrigued me enough that I had to continue on! I'm glad I did, because although I didn't condone her actions, her age and bitter past explained her need for attention, and why she did those shameful things. You couldn't help but wonder what brought her to this deceitful place, and it's revealed as the story moves forward. Was what she did still wrong? Yes, but I still found myself sympathizing and rooting for her till the end! Inherently Paisley is a good person, who made some hurtful and stupid mistakes.
James was not much better, and although he's presented as the good entity in this story, he should have known better, but lust clouds his thinking. His reaction towards Paisley is so intense and nearly out of his control, he just acts and doesn't think. He says and does some hateful things, which Paisley does, yet doesn't deserve. Confused me too! There's a strong sexual attraction, but also a protective nature that James feels toward her, and that's what endeared me to him. On the surface these two act one way, but once their hearts get involved there is no denying this is more than lust!
I wasn't sure this could possibly end well, but somehow, albeit a little far-fetched, it ends on a good note! I wanted to believe, so I bought it hook, line and sinker!
This was definitely a different type of read for me, and my hats off to Elise Alden for capturing my attention, arousing my curiosity, and keeping me entranced with her expressive writing and heady dialogue. Presenting the story from Paisley's point-of-view also allowed for more of a character/reader connection, which I think is the reason I felt sorry for her. Had it not been written from her perspective, my take on this story might have been unsympathetic on the heroine's plight. But, I took Paisley's journey with her...and in my book it's what made all the difference!
Carmen Rose's narration was amazing! While I probably still would have enjoyed the story had I read the book, this talented animated narrator embraced the story and Paisley's character, allowing me the full experience of Hate to Love You!
I could see the overall ending for the main people buy the twisting and turning and backstabbing along the way was hard to handle.
Overall pretty good story.
"This story grabs you by the throat"
Yes. It is a good angsty story and when I'm in the right mood it will appeal again.
I actually had to leave it a few times. It is one of those books that can frustrate you because the main character just keeps on getting the crap kicked out of her by life. I always came back, but I would actually get worked up enough that I took breaks from time to time.
"LOST CHANCES LEADS TO AN EMOTIONAL LOVE STORY"
This is a very emotional and unusual contemporary British love story that's full of angst and bitter drama, as Paisley, the hated and very misunderstood daughter of a dysfunctional family, is on a downwards spiral of self-hate and self abuse in the form of drug abuse and alcohol…. but she's not going down alone. Two time periods, one full of bad decisions, rejection, heartache and pain then 7 years later when she asks for forgiveness, understanding and a second chance but again there's rejection, heartache and pain.
This is a fast-paced story that's so well-written about denied instant sexual attraction and chemistry between two very different people that just weren't in the right place in their lives to understand it or grab it and instead fate led them down two very different paths. Lies, secrets, revelations, a twist, a lot of verbal sparring, family deaths, betrayal and a host of other events must all be overcome and forgiven before there's any hope of a HEA ending.
Told from Paisley's POV with dry humor, few sex scenes but they were emotional, highly charged and graphic and the narrator did a great job.
Worth a credit? Once I started this listen I was totally hooked on Paisley's life, her inner battles, demons, regrets and hopes and her hard-won fight to carve out a little bit of happiness in her life. Yes I could of slapped her at times but this is a heartbreaking, bitter and raw story that grew into a breathtaking love story which was well worth a credit.
