Remarkable talent threatens to cloud a life...The prophet Nehemiah's cousin has been catapulted into the center of the Persian court - working long hours, rubbing elbows with royalty, and becoming the queen's favorite scribe. Not bad, for a woman living in a man's world. But a devastating past has left Sarah believing that God doesn't love her and that her achievements are the measure of her worth - a measure she can never quite live up to. Darius Pasargadae is accustomed to having his way. A wealthy and admired aristocrat, the last thing he expects is an arranged marriage to the queen's scribe, an intelligent woman who scorns him. Can two such different people help one another overcome the idols that bind them?

"Worth reading/listening to..."
The narration was excellent, easy to understand, easy on the ears. The production was also excellent. I did not have to adjust volume and or tenor throughout.
I enjoyed the story, its historic nature but most especially the description of spiritual and emotional struggle.
I am so amazed by this book! It was beautiful to read and encouraged my love for Jesus and his hand on my life.
"Enjoyed this story!"
Beautiful story and beautiful narration! Couldn't put this one down. I am starting to fall in love with audio books. I can read anytime anywhere.
"Best inspirational author"
Only Francine Rivers compares to the issues dealt with the symbolism and the use of Biblical context. Fantastic!
"I loved this book!!!"
In whole! The characters, the story, most of all the God of this story. I laughed and cried and hoped and dreamed. I longed for the ending and dreaded it as I would miss my new found friends in this wonderful story.
"Tantalizing love story"
Tantalizing Persian Jewish love story set in Nehemiah's era before the Jews return to Jerusalem to rebuild their city. One of the best narrators I've heard in Laural Merlington. And awesome weekend audiobook. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
"Christian romance in Persian times"
hooked right from beginning excellent story lines, suspenseful. Also I even would consider letting my 12 year old daughter read it as any romance is within a marriage and is not PG but more part of a normal loving marraige. I will be reading the sequel just finished this one today.
"much better than expected"
Sarah was the main character. although I don't understand your perspective and a lot of ways because I am nothing like her I still love to this character
Absolutely one of the best books I have ever read. The way the main character reflected on her relationship with the Lord and all the analogies rang through my heart, it caused me to reflect in my own life. The story was such a great one and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I love the narrators voice too. I've fallen in love with this author.
looking forward to the next book.
