"Best historical novelist? I say Wilbur Smith." (Stephen King)
"No one does adventure quite like Smith." (Daily Mirror)
This is one of Wilbur Smith's best. A fabulous tale of seafaring courage, with the usual assortment of rouges, fighting, incarceration, and escape. brilliant writing, excellent narration, and a thoroughly engaging listen. I have listened to many of smith's books, and find the abridged versions significantly lacking, and so with this unabridged version you get the full force of his work. Highly recommended.
we'll another great book by a brilliant another and a brilliant store with a family link to other book s in this brilliant series

a great read, would love to know when this was written, the sequence of his stories would really benefit the readers understanding of WS writing and story telling would bring him to life for this fan in particular
I have so much enjoyed all of Wilbur Smith's books, but he was off track with the Nile series and this is the worst of the others.
It is just too much made up and extravagant.
Simply disappointing. Out dated?
Might it be that we live in a different era now?
It was not like a wilbur smith book totally different most disappointing and unreadable narrator was not easy to listen to
Simon Vance (fromn the quest so much better)
the second writer
WILBUR SMITH PLEASE GO BACK TO WRITING ALONE
A less predictable plot and richer character development.
Is this really a Wilbur Smith novel? Who is Giles Kristian?
I'm not sure any narrator would have done much better, so, yes I'll try again.
I found the story line flat and quite predictable and, unlike Smith's previous novels, particularly the Courtney series, Golden Lion's characters seem quite fuzzy and one-dimensional. Very disappointing. When will we get more of his older novels in unabridged audio?
