I have always been a bird. Caged by one prison or another when the only thing I ever wanted was to fly away. Sold. Beaten. Starved. Drugged. Nothing scares me anymore. Until him. He makes the numbness go away. He is hazardous to me. It has nothing to do with his mafia lifestyle, and everything to do with what he offers. A gilded prison. A retreat from everything that I once knew. The reality I have no desire to return to. He thinks he's caged me, but soon I'm going to fly.
I live by a code. The Vory code. In this mafiya world, there are traditions. Expectations. She does not care for these things. She does not care about anything. She thinks she has me fooled with her haunted eyes. What she can't know is that I see her better than most. She wants to fly. But I'm going to clip her wings. And make her my wife.

"Best One of the Series....so far."
This book (and series) is definitely not for the faint of heart. This story is deep, dark and emotional. It doesn't shy away from mafia issues like human trafficking, drugs, betrayal, and murder. It is very descriptive and detailed with characters that are beyond flawed but not beyond redemption. It's a must listen for those who love suspenseful love stories.
Tracy Marks narrates these books wonderfully. Her accents and clear voice make listening a pleasure.
Note: This book has very descriptive sex scenes, violence, and strong language. This is definitely an Adults Only listen.
This book is worth a credit and I would like to thank the author, narrator, or publisher for providing me this audiobook at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review.
"Another fantastic, dark, delicious romance"
The continuation of the Boston Underworld series - I loved how we got to learn what happened to Talia and I loved how characters I already knew and events I had already read about in the previous two books kept coming up. There were a couple of inconsistencies, but they were completely forgivable - I was reading it for the dark, erotic and delightful romance, not for the details.
Alexei, because he surprised me. The impression I had got of him from the cameos he has played in the previous two books was totally different to the Alexei we get to know in this book. For starters, I hadn't realised he was the 6ft 6" hunk of manliness that he appears to be. I liked him particularly for his weaknesses and flaws which never detracted from his alpha male personality.
Even though he only plays a very small role, definitely Lachlan Crow. Tracy Marks's Irish accent is absolutely delicious. I could listen to it endlessly. But if I were to have to choose from the main characters, then you couldn't go wrong choosing Talia. Tracy Marks has the Boston accent down pat.
I loved it. I love all of the books in this series. More please!
"Dark, Raw and Riveting!"
What a great story! This is my first A. Zavarelli and "Wow!" I did not know what I was missing. This was the third book in the series, but was well written and gave enough details, it could easily be listened as a stand alone. I did not feel lost.
Ghost is a dark story. Talia was sold as a sex slave, by her "boyfriend", and Alexei was sent in to find Talia. He rescues her, and keeps her safe by marrying her. During her captivity Talia suffered a lot, and had a tough road to recovery. Alexei slowly helps Talia recover, and they start to develop true feelings for each other. However, Alexei had another reason for marrying her, and did not want others to know. When his secrete is revealed, he suspects Talia is the person who betrayed him, and he treats her badly.
Tracy Marks narration was awesome. She did a great job on all the accents.
This story was good, and well worth a credit.
"IT WAS EVERYTHING I DIDN'T KNOW I WAS LOOKING FOR"
This listen is raw, gritty, dark and moving too as a very broken Talia is rescued from imprisonment, beatings, rape, starvation, and sexual abuse by a handsome powerful Russian named Alexei. Talia has slowly mentally shut down since she was sold into being a sex slave and it's going to take a special man to coax her out of her shell - one that's just as damaged as Talia. But he's no Knight come to rescue his damsel because Alexei had his own demons to battle so first he will marry her, tattoo his 'mark' on her, bring her back from self-harm and suicide, get her pregnant, gain her trust.. and then break her heart.
Alexei is Counsellor to the Boss of the Russian Mafia, he's cold, closed off, unreachable.. and he's promised his new wife that he'll do anything for her, heal her and give her whatever her heart desires.. but he'll never love her. Alexei has his own reasons for marrying Talia - the broken woman who he understands so well, knows her darkest thoughts all too well and is determined to bring her back to life. But challenges like having a Dad for an enemy within his ranks, a half brother who's maybe an enemy too, a secret disability and a very bitter determined power-hungry ex causes untold grief. Apart from two people, Alexei is surrounded by people he can't trust but, as his feelings and desires for Talia grow, he lets a third person in.. but just when he thought he could have it all he was humiliated and betrayed by someone who'd gotten close and there was only one suspect.. his wife. And anger, rage and coldness washed over him as he pointed his judgemental finger on just one face.. and then he unleashed his fury on her.. fury that would have dire consequences - and would bring him to his knees in the end.
Well, I thought the other two books in the series were great - but this one hit it way over the fence for me. The mental destruction is chilling as you hear Talia's broken descriptive inner thoughts and musings.. and the tentative steps she takes as Alexei heals her are deep. Alexei is mysterious, dangerous, powerful and has something to prove but his feelings for Talia slowly brings out another side to this Russia - the best.. and worst sides. There's all you'd expect from an A. Zavarelli book - it's emotionally charged, with high anxiety, drama, angst, sex, mystery.. and, out of the debris comes love. Dual POV's and Tracy Marks did an awesome job at narration - her ability to adapt to genders, emotions and action truly brought this book to life.
Worth a credit? If you hadn't already guessed it it's a YES - but only a yes if you're prepared for a dark chilling start and you're willing to wait for that 'feel good' factor.
"What a Powerful Story"
This book was given for an unbiased review via audiobook boom. This story grabbed me at the beginning and never let go. Tallia experienced so much pain that you wonder why she did not go crazy. Then the one man who wanted to help her though she betrayed him. I am glad he woke up and realized his mistake. Although some of the things described were hard to handle you have to realize that this goes on all of the time and many of the women and young girls only get out through death and their families never know where they are. Powerful stuff in this book.
"Oh my, what a listen!"
This audio book was a dark, twisted journey through the fight for love with a couple of damaged people. I absolutely recommend this listen the narration really made feel like I was there with them.
"I LOVE THIS SERIES!!!!!!!!!!!!"
This audiobook was given by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review via Audiobook Boom.
First of all the Narrator, Tracy Marks, is incredible. She draws me into the story, asking me to have deep emotions for the hero and heroine. The accents are great! The emotion incredible! I had to take breaks because of the deep feelings, sorrow and empathy she elicited from me.....
This is the third book in the series..you could get by skipping around, but I like knowing the supporting cast and the previous introduction to Talia and Alexis. Both so broken...but boy am I impressed with her strength in particular.
There is mystery, romance, steam, sadness, happiness.....I will hate it when this series ends!
Get it Get it Get it...everyone one Crow, Reaper and Ghost!
"Do NOT Miss This: Alexei and Talia"
WOW!!! I cannot recommend this series enough. The writing is excellent, and the narration is amazing. Irish and Russian mob set in Boston-but so much more. The first book surprised me with how great it was. The second book took me even further into this world, and this beautiful, tragic, horrible and inspiring story had me laughing and crying and even complimenting the author on FB (not my usual M.O.) It's been a long time, but I have a new author to add to my auto-download list. I'm SO loving this series and wanting more and more from this author. Not rehashing the story itself. It needs to be experienced. Get on that.
As for Tracy Marks, again, AMAZING job. She is 100% spot on. The performance is perfection, and her name after "Narrated by" is going to be a definite selling point for me from here forward. I'm beyond thrilled to have found 2 new-to-me talents, and I LOVE this writer/narrator combination.
I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review, and if you have read my reviews, you can tell by all the "unhelpful" votes I rack up from bitter street team members and narrators that they are definitely unbiased. This author/narrator/series IS THE REAL DEAL! Credit, cash, full-price, member price, sale…just get this series by any legal means necessary. You will NOT be disappointed, even with all the glowing reviews, because they are very well-deserved!
"Gripping… Heart-Wrenching… Compelling…"
Another undeniably gripping addition to the Boston Underworld series. A. Zavarelli excels at writing stories with characters who are flawed, scarred, and have traumatic pasts that will pull on your heart strings. Her stories don’t just "tell" you about the characters emotions, but written in way you actually feel and experience all the emotions right with the characters.
Alexei is an alpha character all the way. He's sent to find Talia and ends up rescuing her from being a sex slave. While he's determine to bring her back, he doesn't coddle her and makes her his wife. Slowly they both start opening up and letting the other in, but when his deepest secrete is revealed to his brothers, he feels betrayed and suspects Talia is the one who betrayed him.
Tracy Mark's performance is phenomenal! She knows how to portray the characters, and pulls the listener in with her authentic accents and emotions. Mark's narrating skills really shine in this series.
I received this audio in exchange for an honest review and LOVE IT! ~ It's Worth Every Minute! If you like dark romances with a mafia theme, flawed characters, an alpha bad boy and steamy sex scenes, then this is a story you do not want to pass up. But be warned, there's language, violence and graphic sex scenes.
I absolutely adored every second of this book. I read it first and loves it but to hear it was amazing. The narrator made each character come to life. Her accents were spot on. Edge of the chair suspense with a loving storyline that soothed my desire for a happily ever after.
