Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?
I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn't have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn't hear her voice.
You see, meeting the love of my life at age 13 was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of 21.
They both happened anyway.
Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.
Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.
I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

Loved this book 10*'s
I have come to expect a really good book from Aly Martinez and this doesn't disappoint. Great story line, beautfully crafted, brought both laughter and tears.
I was completely entranced by the strong family bonds, great characters.
Narrator (Laura Jennings) did a fabulous job given there were many male voices to convey.
I would totally listen to the rest of the series (an accolade from me as I don't really like series, they bore me), I'm dying to know Flins story, but they haven't come to Audible yet - come on Audible get on it....
"THE SILENCER'S ULTIMATE FIGHT"
I was gifted this audiobook through Audiobook Boom by the author, narrator or publisher for an unbiased review.
Very good story about Till and Eliza's difficult defeat over poverty, family abuse, physical handicap and emotional fear. There's a lot of action and time covered so it's no wonder that there are some blanks. For example, the outcome of the initial confrontation with Till's father and another, the final state of his brother, Flint. I'm going to assume Flint's story is to be continued, and hopefully we'll get some background into their father, as well.
The subject of deafness didn't have the level of acceptance I feel is important. However, the story does focus on the pain of knowing what is lost after having the ability to hear. The deaf society is rich and proud. Sign language and lip reading communicate just as the spoken word with only the inconvenience of few people "speaking" it.
Two Thumbs Up.
"loving this series"
Each book I read in this series just makes me a bigger fan of Aly Martinez. I enjoy how each is linked to the other its like seeing friend. the best for me is that these men love so hard, and each one reminds me of the love I share with my fiance.
"Really good start to the series :)"
This was a really good story. I liked both Eliza and Till very much and enjoyed their story. This is the first book I've read by this author and I liked this well enough that I'm sure I'll try more of her work in the future.
Eliza is a nice girl that grew up without much. When I say without much, I don't just mean her family was poor, I mean she didn't get much love either since her parents saw her more as a burden than someone they should love. Eliza loved drawing and such so it was unfortunate that the only time her mother paid her any attention was to tell her not to waste time on art and throw away any art supplies Eliza had managed to get. Because of this, Eliza spent most of her time in a condemned apartment in her neighborhood so she could have a place to draw and hide her supplies.
Till is a good guy but grew up with even less than Eliza. His father wasn't around much and then got sent to prison. Till's mother is a drunk that is rarely around and doesn't bother with trying to be a mother to Till or his two younger brothers. Till had to take a hand in raising his brothers and bringing in money to make rent and food since his mother rarely bothered with such things.
When the story being, Till and Eliza are both young and they go to school together but don't really know each other (not positive but I think they were around 13 years old at the time). Till had just found out about his hearing issues and that they'd get worse and worse as Till grew up. He's upset and goes to find someplace to be alone. Till happens across a condemned apartment with an open window and when he climbs in, he meets Eliza. Eliza has been hanging out there a while and isn't sure about Till being there but soon they start hanging out in the apartment on a daily basis. Till and Eliza never actually talk in school but in their apartment, they're BFFs and have their own little world.
As they're growing up, Eliza wants more with Till and he does as well but he won't allow anything to move forward between them. Partially, this seems to be due to the fact that he thinks that high school relationships never last and Till wants Eliza in his life and doesn't want to mess it up. Eventually though, it seems to be more that Till doesn't think he'll ever actually get something good for himself without life taking it away. He's determined that if he gets in a relationship with Eliza, thing will get messed up and he'll end up losing her completely and then he couldn't even have her friendship. Of course, eventually the fine line of friendship gets crossed...and yeah, it messes things up but pretty much just because Till's issues. There's a bit of back and forth and Eliza is pretty cool about things until Till finally pushes her too far and Till has to learn his lesson or lose her for good. Once they fix things, we get to see their relationship progress through the years until the story ends with Till and Eliza well on the way to their HEA together.
This was a really enjoyable story. Eliza was a great heroine. She was smart, sweet and giving without being a pushover. Till was a good hero. I liked him very much except for his issues that caused him to push Eliza away. I guess I never really "got" his issues completely so it bugged me a bit. Outside of that, I had no real complaints about the story. Overall, it was very good and kept me interested until the end. I'd recommend this book. :)
This was a great story with good characters and a good start to the series. It had love/drama/humor, and some action. I am looking forward to listening to the next book.
I have one reason why I didn't make this a 5 star. After they took the next step in their friendship to lovers and then decided to go back being friends for another 3 years, they dated other people during that time. Which is fine, but the fact they were so completely in love with eachother and both knew it, yet still slept with other people during those 3 years of just being friends put me off. I can see dating other people and trying to move on but actually being able to go all the way with another person no. Not while spending every day with eachother and being so completely in love, no matter how much time had past. There is no cheating and we don't even hear details about anyone else just a mention of it. Either way it still bothered me so I gave it a 3.5 star.
"Beautifully written realistic love story.."
I requested this book in exchange for my honest review and it completely exceeded my expectations.
Once in a while a book will come along that really sticks with you and this is one I will revisit my library for.
It's a wonderful story with memorable emotionally layered characters.
This unconventional romance held my interest the intire time.
This book is far more than an experimental night that turns friends in to lover's.
And of course this unique story has some pretty hot sexy scenes in it as well lol.
The narrator's did a great job acting out this truly gifted author's word's.
If your tired of listening to the typical boy meets girl romance... spend a credit and give this book a try it's well worth it.
"Enjoyed every minute!!"
Sweet, Honorable, Loyal
I loved the story as a whole. Lots of different aspects but beautifully put together.
No, this was my first time for both and would definitely grab one of their performances in a heart beat,
A great moment for me is when Till takes on the care of his brothers.
I received this audio book for free in exchange for a fair review.
"4 Reality is better than fantasy Stars!"
Yes, I would recommend it! I really enjoyed Eliza and Till's story, though there are some heartbreaking scenes I found the story sweet and Till is just so swoon worthy. It takes him a while to get out of his head and finally realize that being in the real world with Eliza is a thousand times better than living in a fantasy world. Some may have gotten frustrated with how long it takes him but to be fair he has a lot on his plate, his brothers, money issues and his gradual hearing loss.
Worth The Fight by Vi Keeland, both enjoyable stories that feature fighters.
When Eliza finally had enough and shoved Till out her front door. I thought finally!
Both Laura Jennings and Carson Beck did a great job with the narration. I hope that Carson Beck narrates more books!

Very very very good book. I wish men could love a woman the way Till loved Doodle! Great writing by this author and I will be getting the other books on series!!!!!
This audiobook was given to me for a honest unbiased review. I love this book. I Love anything Aly Martinez, writes but this was above and beyond her usual awesomeness.
"Down to earth characters that I cared about..."
Great storyline. I enjoyed the building relationship between the two main characters. I could of done without the sex scenes, but the overall premise and characters kept me engaged and truly rooting for them. I finished the book in one day.
