Helena Conway has fallen in love. Unwillingly. Unwittingly. But not unprovoked. Kit Isley is everything she's not - unstructured, untethered, and not even a little bit careful. It could all be so beautiful...if he wasn't dating her best friend. Helena must defy her heart, do the right thing, and think of others. Until she doesn't.

"Left me feeling confused?"
3.5 stars (based on my understanding of the story)
This is not a negative review, even though it may seem like it, it is more about me and my understanding of this book than a reflection on the author, writing style or the story.
I guess maybe I was expecting something a little different. I enjoyed the story but I think maybe I'm just too "beige" sometimes for Tarryn's writing style. I think maybe I see things in black and white and that makes it hard for me to understand the artsy writing style that leaves a story completely up for interpretation. I never seem to get the story the way others do. I liked the characters but I really couldn't connect with them but I think that is just because they were eclectic and I am not, if that makes sense. I did enjoy the story for the most part but I just don't think I "get" her stories as much as I wish I did. I can see how someone who is a little dark and a little bit of a nonconformist would love this story. I however just don't have the mind set to get more from a story than the actual words say. Yes I know, I'm boring.
Anyways, If you like dark and twisty and you like a book that will make you think the entire time you will love this book!
The narration was different for sure. At first I wasn't a fan but as I got to know the main character more I realized the narrator was perfect for her voice!
"Great story, terrible narrator."
I am a big fan of Tarryn Fisher, and very much enjoyed the story. Unfortunately, the narrator of made it incredibly difficult to want to finish the book. I would recommend purchasing the paperback.
"I LOVE THIS BOOK!"
She's so smart and quirky! I lost myself in this book, the way she describes her love and then try to talk herself out of it. I love the way she says forehead! I just love this book!
I'm not quite sure what just happened it could be because I haven't slept I had to finish so I could know what happened or could be the mindfuck of the end of this book but I really can't copperhead the end of this book
"Tarryn Fisher = Amazing Author"
LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this book. can't wait to read more of Tarryn Fisher's work.
Now don't get me wrong, I really liked this book but I swear for 90% I was going wtf is going on. Defiantly a page turner. I couldn't put it down until I figured out where this story was going.
Well played Miss Fisher. Well played.
"Love the narration"
I had read the book and now I enjoyed listening to the audio version really much!
"Enjoyed the author's writing style."
This is the first book I have ever read by Ms. Fisher and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style. However, this particular story was hit or miss with me at times. The storyline was interesting and engaging because of its originality but the hero in this story was incredibly unworthy of the life-changing craziness the heroine unnecessarily put herself through.
I feel like I found another new-adult author to add to my list. I look forward to reading more from Tarryn Fisher.
My favorite quote:
“Contrast is important in life. We understand what light is because we can compare it with what we know is dark. Sweet is made sweeter after we eat something bitter. It’s the very same with sadness. And it’s important to experience sadness, to embrace it in order to truly know happiness.”
Fabulous story. This is a 10 Star book! The narrator is absolutely perfect! So different and entertaining. The characters are fantastic!
"Well that was mind f*ckery."
Not sure what who I was rooting for in that book. In the end, I am content with the outcome, but I was really confused what I wanted for Helena mid-book. Lots of twists and turns and some intriguing characters that give you a lot to ponder.
First time listen for Marisa Vitali and I liked her. She did a great job with all the characters. I didn't like when she said "Helena", but I'm not sure if it's because I hated the name for the character or the way she said it, but other than that- all was good.
I would recommend for a listen.
