Summary

Nothing is quite as it seems. Expect the unexpected in this veritable treasure trove of enthralling, witty, dark tales that could come only from the imagination of the greatest storyteller of our time.

In this eerie, enchanting compilation, Stephen King takes listeners down a road less travelled (for good reason) in the gripping 'Riding the Bullet'. Terror becomes déjà vu all over again when you get 'That Feeling, You Can Only Say What It Is in French'. 'LT's Theory of Pets' will make you stop and think before giving a dog to a loved one. And there are 11 more stories that will keep you awake until dawn.

Narrated by Becky Ann Baker, John Cullum, Boyd Gaines, Peter Gerety, Josh Hamilton, Arliss Howard, Judith Ivey, Stephen King, Justin Long, Oliver Platt and Jay O. Sanders.

Not worth the £4

Two of the short stories were alright, however, the rest were unbelievably dull. If I didn't hate leaving a book unfinished I would have stopped this an hour or two in.

A great collection of stories

I've really enjoyed this collection. As a 'constant reader' of Stephen King's I wanted some shorter stories to enjoy. Loved it. He creates mood and feeling. I especially enjoyed the stories read by him.

Exceptional selection of King at his best!

King is probably the weakest narrator, but still very good. The rest are fantastic.

Not all of the stories may be to your taste, personally I found the gunslinger story to be rather slow. But if you like anything of King's you'll find plenty to like in here!

Good variety

I’d read the book previously but it has been a while. I bought it as I had just listened to The Dark Tower series, including The Wind through the Keyhole and wanted more time with Roland on his journey to the Tower. I bought it for that story alone but the additional stories offer a good mix. The Road Virus Heads North was particularly chilling. I found myself having to put the light on while listening as it got to me in ways the others didn’t. Overall it’s what you would expect from King, and contrary to what others have said, I like hearing him narrate his stories.

Avoid wearing headphones

Great stories as expected from Stephen King but I couldn't finish a single one. The fact that it blares music at you throughout is massively distracting. 1408 (chapter 17) in particular is really bad, with the sax occasionally overriding the narrative. Big disappointment.

Some stories better than others

There are some great stories in here, but there are also some that i found a bit of a slog, even if they were short. The best ones are Autopsy in Room 4, The Road Virus Heads North and Riding The Bullet. More good than bad so overall I'm glad I gave this a listen.

Decent.

Some of the stories aren’t that great, but on the whole, pretty good.
It wes worth the credit I spent on it.

Lacklustre stories that did very little for me. I love and appreciate Stephen King for 30yrs but these tales all left me thinking so what.
