Summary

Paige Winterbourne is a witch. Not that you'd notice - no warts, no green skin, no cute little wiggle of the nose whenever she casts a spell. No, most of the time she's just a normal 23-year-old girl; works too hard, worries about her weight, wonders if she'll ever find a boyfriend. Okay, so she does have an adopted teenage daughter, Savannah, who wants to raise her black witch of a mother from the dead. And who is being stalked by a telekinetic half-demon and an all-powerful cabal of sorcerers. But other than that, Paige has a really ordinary life. That is, until the neighbours find out who she is, and all hell breaks loose. Literally…

Decent but Frustrating

This is book 3 in the Otherworld series and so not a good place to start.

Unfortunately at the time of writing this Audible UK doesnt have books 1 and 2 - which are in my view better books. Our main characters Paige and Savannah are introduced in book 2 along one one of the main villains, Leah, so you may be a bit lost without the background ( either read them or find the Audio recordings which do exist elsewhere)

The story is basically a good one, but Paige is a really frustrating character making a succession of really stupid decisions which go just as badly as you already predicted.
It makes the book a bit of an annoying listen at times and I wish Kelley had found a slightly better way to get her into some of the situations she found herself in. Savannah makes some dumb choices as well but there are much easier to accept for a 13 year old teenager.

Narration is OK but not perfect - the book moves the story on nicely though as mentioned in other reviews the ending is a bit sudden. It looks like the story continues in the next book - which I will be downloading.

If you liked books 1 and 2 its worth continuing but I missed Elana who barely features in this book and is a much better lead character

I'm biased

I'm biased, because I've read this book so many times already, but it's always just as good!

I didn't like the narrator because she made Savannah sound like a 3 year old instead of a teenager, and Lucas sounded like a hoarse old lady. Although I will say that she did a real good Paige, and anywhere that wasn't characters, her voice is soothing and she has a talent to make you feel what the author has written. If the situation is dire, she makes it clear. Skillful narrator, but voice-wise not for me when it comes to the characters.

The story itself is for lack of a better word, awesome!
Suspenseful and intriguing, first time I read this series I just had to continue with the next book, and the next asap because it's just so good. The only remark I have is the ending. Not because it's bad, but it's very abrupt. Allt this stuff happens and then it's over and the last 8 minutes of the story is the "what happens next"-part. It should have been longer, a little more detailed.

interesting

took me a bit to get in but then I was pulled in, became involved and invested.

A startlingly abrupt end though

KAZ🇬🇧😃 Good but narrator's awful 😞

I have owned the book for age's & really enjoyed it so thought I'd get the audiobook as well sadly 😥 I didn't play the sample if I had I'd have left it because the narration is absolutely awful for Savannah's voice drove me crazy whining & high pitched 🤪👎 The storyline is great some of the character's are good just the narrator could of been so much better LUV 💙 the author Sad wasted a credit should of stuck with the written version of this 📖

Real struggle to finish

There wasn’t anything about the main character that I actually liked, which is obviously a huge stumbling block for any book. She just bumbles around life not having a clue what she’s doing and making stupid decisions. Then on top of that, there’s no chemistry between the two main characters. I just about managed to listen to the whole book but nearly gave up so many times.
