Dilly is devastated: with her husband unable to work and four children already at home, they cannot afford to feed their newborn baby. Heartbroken, she delivers her baby girl to the Farthing family, who have just lost their own daughter to measles.
This act of desperation will change the lives of both families irrevocably. But when the chance for true love finally comes, will Dilly choose family over her own happiness?

Praise for the author: "Rosie Goodwin excels at tugging-the-heartstrings." (Lincolnshire Echo)
Highly recommend as not only good story but also historic social life
When she gave up her baby and later gained her back unbeknown to the child
Good reading voice made listening a pleasure
From rags to riches
Not sure why - but really struggled to get into this story line it seemed to go on and on forever about something and nothing! Left it to one side with 2 hours listening to go.
Think this is one of the least enjoyable books i have ever listened to - even considered applying for a refund!!
this book is really good, my only gripe is that the narrator puts a lot of emphasis on the word AND, & there is some lot of them. I think it would have been better for a brief gap whilst telling the story. but it is only a minor annoyance
I love family sagas, like discovering different authors and escaping in a story, prefer listening while I do all the boring chores!
narrator very good, nice voice easy to listen to.
very much enjoyed this story, love the characters especially Dilly.
would have preferred a different ending but still very enjoyable.
