Six Giant Assassins.
Goliath Was Only the First.
Everyone knows the story of David. Or so you think. No one has heard it told this way before.
In the days of Samuel the Seer, the Philistines are at the climax of a long war with Israel over the land of Canaan. There are still giants in Philistia left from Joshua's search and destroy mission of holy war generations earlier. Their numbers have grown.
The young Philistine giant warrior Goliath steals the sacred ark of the covenant from Israel. But Yahweh's curse upon Goliath's people for that deed sets in motion an obsession of revenge and the creation of an elite warrior cult of giants, The Sons of Rapha, whose sole ambition is to kill the promised messiah king of Israel.
The only problem is, Israel's King Saul is not that chosen one, because he is possessed by the evil spirit of an ancient malevolent ruler who seeks to kill that same unknown and spiritually anointed king.
They both discover it is David, son of Jesse, a young insignificant shepherd musician who woos the girls, and who miraculously slays Goliath in a battle contest. But now David is running for his life from both family and foe, gathering outlaws as allies, and eventually hiding in the one place no one would ever dream of: Goliath's home town, the Philistine city of Gath.
With David in the Serpent's lair, the queen of Gath trying to seduce him, King Saul and the Philistine giants trying to assassinate him, and David's three wives all vying for his attention, this gritty romantic action adventure story will take you places in the Bible you've never seen before.
You think you know how it ends. But there is so much more to the story than you ever realized.
The War of the Seed continues with the Philistines vs. the Messiah King of Israel.

"Great Job by Godawa"
Brian Godawa does a great job of bringing to life the stories of the Torah. Some of the descriptions are gory, barbaric and lascivious not meant for the young or squeamish. I would give it a five if there was are more PG version but I am great full for Godawa's use of the Torah and other ancient texts such as the book of Jasher and the Zohar. I have followed the whole series and wait for the next one Jehoshua on audio.
gripping, adventurous, rivitng
It was way to graphic when it came to the sexual parts.
I love the creativity he uses- never knew where he was going
i can't recommend his books because of his explicit descriptions of sexual encounters. Way, way too much information.
"Couldn't finish the book"
I listened to the first book in this series and really enjoyed it. I don't want to be a prude but this book had potential if it weren't for the (what I can only describe as) soft gay porn segments. I was taken aback by it, and although I think I know what the author was trying to convey, these segments were unnecessary and I believe he could have taken another route to convey the immorality of the Philistines. In three words...TOO MUCH INFORMATION. I didn't finish the book. Brian...Please keep in mind that if you are going to market a book as Christian fiction you may want to make the assumption that your reader base doesn't want strong references to gay sex and child rape.
i can definitely here things that were not so obvious in biblical texts that I believe took place in the past and are being kept very secretive to this day. ..even by the watchers
"Best of the bunch so far!"
I really like this series by Brian Godawa and I intend to listen to all eight novels. This is Book 7 of the series, again read by the author himself which I have come to appreciate more and more during the series. I had to overcome a slight annoyance each time he reads a female voice, but after six novels I was finally used to it and it didn't bother me anymore.
This seventh novel is the best of the series up until now. This very well-written story about perhaps the most famous king in the bible has upped the volume to 10! It has action, sex, rough language, gods (small g), giants and even some chimeras (hybrid creatures). Which personally I believe captures the atmosphere of the underlying biblical story very well.
Be advised though that this is not a 'modernized telling' of the literal bible story. The author has studied and read the bible and a lot of historic materials, and in the appendix he talks us through his research.
All in all I loved this novel the most of the entire series. Of course I have Book 8 still waiting for me, so for now the jury's out on the complete series a little longer :-)
I recommend this novel, and the entire series.
"David Ascendant - Book 7"
Have not read the printed version.
The dedication and commitment of David's powerful army.
Chronicles of the Nephilim
I've read three of the seven books (this being my 3rd book) and, by far, the best remains Jesus Triumph. Noah was good but this one (David Ascendant) good, but keep the enemies alive too long. Though Yahweh is mentioned throughout the book, it is the Nephilim who is always center stage. This book should have caught Baalabub and the even Asharer. Both should met the same fate as dagon.
"Don't want the series to end!"
Brian has done an in depth job on both entertaining and educating his audience. Kudos my brother! !
I was absolutely bound to narrator as he wove the story of David...I knew the story from heart but to hear Brian story, I had to remind my self that this is fiction...several times:-) I enjoyed it to the Nth degree. So far, I have gobbled up the previous volumes and am on my way to the last...Jesus.
I was not expecting such vivid portrayals of homosexuality. I think there could've been less of that and I would've given this a five star rating but because it appeals to those inside the faith that really try to avoid those types of images, I think the author should have done a better job of not being so vivid with those scenes.
"Great performance, needs more voice talent"
Great story great performance, just wish there was more than one voice portraying the other actors
