Twenty-five-year-old Lexi Salenko is an independent and focused young woman who has realized her dream of moving to the open country of Montana and starting up a quaint bookstore. Romance and adventure have always remained within the covers of her cherished novels until one day she receives a mysterious letter from her archaeologist sister. The letter was sent from Israel and was badly damaged, but Lexi understands enough of it that her sister may be in trouble. Lexi follows the cryptic instructions sent to her and finds herself propelled on an odyssey across three continents with a very sexy former Navy SEAL turned mercenary and a mysterious ancient relic with ties to an ancient cult. She learns about a supernatural force that stretches from the ancient ruins at Gobekli Tepe Turkey through the death camps of the Holocaust and into her present life. Along the way she learns that sometimes you have to let yourself fall in love and believe in the power of hope.

I felt the book was slow to start but it's building up to the story. I really enjoyed the characters Lexi and Ryan and the build up to their relationship. The story contained twist and turns. At one moment I shouted OMG out loud in the middle of the street as I was in shock! Good shock though at the end.
I recommend this book and hopefully there will be a sequel which I will buy.
I really enjoyed listening to Kat Marlowe who narrated the story. I will keep an hear out (and eyes, lol) for others by her.
"great story, needs better narrator"
No, because the narrator didn't have character changes in her voice. Her male main character sounded exactly like the female main character. Then every once in a while you get the female British accent. Got confusing who was talking
The two main characters made for a great love at first site story
No character voice changes..ruined the audio experience. Male voices especially
I really enjoyed the story a lot. Just not the narrator
Story is great. I would read book. Audio book should be recorded again with better narrator
"Already read, but listening was Amazing!"
I love how the mystery and suspense kept you on the edge of your seat! Never a boring moment! Love all of the Characters!
That's a hard one without giving any spoiler alerts!! So I will say - when she meets Ryan..
I have read the book, but listening to Kat Marlowe - really brings out the story. You feel more as those you are a part of it. I only wish Ryan's voice would have been a little more manly so it really stood out, other then that - it was awesome!
Actually listening made it more intense for me. Even though I had already read it and knew what was going to happen. But overall extreme reaction to Conjuring Darkness: Fear - Some scary stuff going on... :)
Author Melanie James really did an excellent job writing Conjuring Darkness. I loved reading it and I absolutely Loved listening to it!! I would definitely listen to it again and again. There were some things I didn't catch while reading, but stood out while listening. So I like having both options and combining them to make for an amazing experience.
"Really good book !!!"
Well if you want a 1 - 10 I give it a 10 .. The voice of the narrator was very clear.
Lexi because she is a very funny yet very strong female
I have never listened to the narrator before but she rocked it !!
Yes it was as I had already read the book and enjoyed it.
This Audible book ROCKED !!!
My Review of the Book - Author Melanie James has ROCKED IT with her Paranormal Writing !!!
Lexi gets sent on a mission to find her older sister Kate
Ryan is a very good friend of Kates husband Kurt and he is pulled into this mission along with Lexi.
Sparks fly between Lexi and Ryan but not too fast and I really enjoyed that about the book.
Oh yea and the Owl on the cover OH YEA it plays a huge roll in this book.
This book had it all.
Mystery , Suspense , Action, and Oh yea the Passion ROCK!!!
And Friends well lets just say with friends like these I would rather have none
"Incredible journey, Romance, Action, Supernatural!"
Yes! I love the characters for one. An independent strong female character and a super hot male character are destined to be together and I love how they fall in love. The romance, history, travel, and action are all well balanced.
I haven;t read another book quite like it. I would have to say that it is along the lines of Romancing the Stone.
Kat's voice definitely adds to the suspenseful parts of the story. I also like how she really makes Lexi real.
The story of Shandor and his attempt to elude the Nazi death squad. The entire story told by Jakub of how he dealt with the Holocaust. Also Lexi's account of when she found out her parents died.
This story is a journey with multiple plot twists and stories within stories. It keeps you going to a suspense filled ending with a real unexpected twist. The mythology of Mesopotamia is spot on and well explained. The fact that it opened with an actual quote from the Epic Of Gilgamesh was very cool. Not many authors quote such a historic ancient text. Best book I've gotten in the last couple of years for sure.
"Love the Added voice"
I loved the book. What an awesome story! But this Audio is excellent incorporating audio. Awesome awesome!
I laughed, I cried yes Melanie James has the effect on you.
Listening to Conjuring Darkness made all the suspense come to life. I loved the interaction between Lexi and Ryan and between Lexi and Marcie even more through live audio. I laughed out loud.
I love that the author was able to incorporate suspense, horror (sort of), and romance all in one story.
Loved it! Humor, Action, and Steam! Lexi and Ryan are Awesome characters. Melanie James ROCKS!!!
This is a great paranormal romance story. A young woman needs to find her sister. She finds help in Kidd. They fight magic, demons, and fight to keep everyone safe. The humor was nice and made the book that much more fun to read. The deep conversations between the main characters where moving and gave a deeper understanding to the characters. Can't wait for the next book seems this couple can get into a lot more trouble.
"Hot and Suspenseful Romance!!!!"
Definitely. It happens to be one of my favorite books and getting to listen to it made it even better. The narrator did a fabulous job telling the story.
I enjoyed the love scene immensely. I also loved how the book kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the entire time.
No, I haven't. But, will do so in the future.
Can I just say how much I love Melanie James' books? She quickly has become one of my go to authors. Her writing style makes each book more interesting than the last. And Conjuring Darkness is no exception. This book is actually my favorite out of all Melanie's books. Even more so because I got to hear the characters come to life. The audio version is even better than the Kindle version. The narrator kept my interest the entire time, and even got the slight accent of Lexi's voice correct. This book not only had me intrigued from the very beginning, from the very beginning , but had me in the edge of my seat the whole time. I loved the fireworks between Ryan and Lexi. The love scene was nothing less than scorching. Pick up your copy today. I guarantee you will not be sorry.
"great book, great narrator"
Great, funny, entertainment
I gigglesnorted a few times at the intersections between the two ladies. ;-)
I highly recommend this. When she's using regular voice it's narrative or thoughts, British accent is main heroine, and slight twang is hero. That will help keep things straight
