I had hoped that the story would pick up, but Olivia continued to be whiny and indecisive. Infidelity is a serious topic and in a work of fiction, the situation surrounding an affair has to be such that the reader can connect with the unfaithful character. And I simply did not relate to Olivia at all, nor did it make sense that she chose to marry Bill because he was a safe option...say what??? Why does Olivia need safe? It seems to me that She is the one dangerous to the heart! I just do not buy that her need to make her marriage work, even though she was apparently unhappy, had to do with her parent's failed union! I mean shit happens, you had bad role models and your life is what you make it...suck it up buttercup! Also, she kept saying she did not want to hurt Bill; well guess what, by hanging on to him, desiring someone else, cheating and settling for him is hurting Bill!!! And David, what is it specifically about Olivia that you cannot live without because honestly, I do not get it!?!?? The story frustrated me so much so that I am done reading about the cluster that is of Olivia's making...At this point I do not care how it all ends for any of them!
"The truest love!!!"
This is a great realistic love story. I can feel the love between David and Olivia. I'm happy she put herself and the life she wanted first.
"Such a roller coaster of emotions but SO addicting!"
I wish they would just get it together already but this story is so addicting that I can't stop now! I have to know if they end up together and happy!
I love this series so much! Can't wait to finish the last book! I heart David Dillon!
Narration - Andy Arndt - Fabulous! Man, her voice for David is so sultry and sexy! Makes you love him even more.
Love, love, loved this book. It is so angsty and delicious.
This is a series with adultery and normally, I don't really care for this story line, but Liv is married to Bill and doesn't even realize that she's not really happily married until she meets David. It becomes more and more apparent that she is with the wrong man and David is her Lobster.
In the end of book one, she ended things with David and is a puddle of despair. Book 2 starts with her as a chocolate mess. She's lost s ton of weight and has really pulled back from her husband Bill. He believes that her despair is at the loss of her dear friend and she doesn't correct him.
Part of the time, you just want to shake Liv and you wonder what the heck she is doing. It's a very tough decision to make. Bill's more wankery side comes out in this book and I completely flipped to team David and wasn't so worried about his feelings anymore. (I know, so bad). This book made me feel things that are against my own moral code because of how right Liv and David are for each other and just how wrong she and Bill are. Thank goodness it's fiction and I'm not held accountable for my thoughts about the whole thing.
Can't wait to move on to book 3! Really enjoying this series!
"Not a dull moment"
I can't even think of the words to accurately describe what this book evokes but I will try.
As the second book in the series, we follow Liv through and even deeper spiral through the love triangle. If I were looking at this from the outside, I would think that I didn't need another 10 hours of narration to just be in the same place as book 1 but I assure you, so much happens and it doesn't feel repetitive or redundant.
I usually try and space out my audio books but this series has me by the "balls" and I have been listening nonstop. My kids are a little irritated having to repeat themselves because of my headphones. It is that good. It hurts that good.
Definitely worth the credit. Andi Arndt is, of course, phenomenal. I always know who is speaking and her inflections and tone project the write emotions.
"The most unlikable heroine!"
This book tells the story of a shallow, heartless, immature, cold, artificial and simply dumb woman, Olivia Germaine, who cheats and then leaves her husband for no other reason than she is undecided and another man was pushing her more than her own husband. She is tacky and cruel with no opinion of her own and absolutely immature. Olivia (Liv) is the kind of a woman, who at 29 doesn't want to commit to a serious relationship, a marriage involving respect, love and children. She doesn't want any of that. Instead she prefers to go out with her girlfriends and stay up late at night, have cat fights in bars and to cheat on her husband, who by the way, is portrayed as a successful, kind, generous, faithful and decent man. I'm not sure what the author really wanted us to read about and admire: the hero, Billy (Olivia's husband) or even David (the lover, for which she leaves her husband) or the anti hero: Olivia. Words cannot describe the disdain I have for this woman. She plays with people's feelings, her husband's, her best friends', even her lover's and she justifies it by calling herself "cold and detached". And all because her parents went through a rough divorce when she was a teenager...Very disappointing. I'm sorry to say, Olivia, but you're not the only teenager who experiences divorce of your parents, and yet that doesn't give anyone a reason to behave so heartless and immaturely. I kept reading through the series hoping that by the end, Olivia would realize the fault of her actions, even if it involved separating herself from her husband (which, by the way, didn't deserve her at all) to be with her lover (who she didn't deserve either). But even with her lover she is still mistrustful, immature and shallow. I just hated her with passion and don't want to hear about Olivia ever again in my life! Billy, all I can say to you is GOOD RIDDANCE!
The writing was decent and quite fluid. The depiction of emotions was very well done and for that my congratulations to the author.
I liked the story and atje narrator. my only isdues is olivia got on my nerves. i did not like the way she treated her husband. Once she had feelings for daniel she should have let her husaband know and let him go. he seems like a good man. the chemistry just was not there for her anymore.
"How would you handle?"
Love, denial, commitment, cheating, sacrafice and ignorance are the words that best describe this 2nd book in the 3 part series City scape.
"Better then book 1"
Yes I would recommend this book to anyone. This series is real, raw, powerful, and could happen to anyone of us at anytime. This book is about making hard choices, any doing things that will impact others. Some reviews say this is a whiny story, I disagree!! This books is all about Liv and what she needs be happy.
I loved David he was strong and powerful but not over bearing or making her decide, he just gave her space to what she wanted.
I have not, but i would again. I cant say enough good things about the series.
