Publisher's Summary

When her father disappears in war-torn Mississippi, Hannah Dandridge finds herself responsible not only for her younger siblings but also for the Texas ranch her father recently acquired. A marriage of convenience could ease her predicament.... but is it the true desire of her heart? Wounded soldier William Barnett returns home only to find out that his family's ranch has been seized. Though angered at this turn of events, he's surprised to discover that it is a beautiful young woman with amazing fortitude who is struggling to keep the place running.

Despite these circumstances, Hannah and William form an uneasy truce... and an undeniable attraction builds between them. In a land where loyalties are divided in a country ravaged by war, is there any hope that the first blush of love can survive?

    "Touching, Uplifting and Inspiring"

This is a moving story by Tracie Peterson, an author who manages to tackle issues of faith and trust in God without sugar sweet or corniness. Her characters are both relate-able and flawed. Additionally, I enjoyed the historical setting of the both the Civil War and the our country's difficult times with American Indians.

    "Christian Love Story"
If you could sum up Chasing the Sun in three words, what would they be?

    faith based romance

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed hearing how their faith helped with the struggles of life. The mention of God isn't as frequent as the last write spoke of but religion clearly leads them and the importance of sharing that faith with other

    "Texas during the Civil War"

My first book about Texas and the Civil War . . . and this is a great one . . . Hannah and her young brother and sister are living on a ranch that has been seized by the government from its owner, William Barnett, because he and his family sided and fought for the union . . . Texas . . . interestingly enough, succeeded from the union in 1861 and replaced Governor Sam Houston, when he would not take an oath of allegiance to the Confederate States. Most Texans' sympathies lied with the south, with some joining the fighting and many being instrumental in smuggling horses and supplies to the confederate troops. In the book, and in the Civil War, the Comanche Indians were ran rough shod by the troops. . . a nuance of the war that I hadn't contemplated before . . . the portrayal of the young Indian boy, injured near the ranch, was one of the most illuminating and interesting parts of the book for me . . . and Hannah's brave move to meet the boy's father when he came for his son . . . this story will stretch your heart and your faith in mankind . . . and remind you that evil exists . . . with childlike faith, Hannah met each obstacle with prayer . . . trusting God to deliver . . . whether it was Mexican servants, Comanche Indians, confederate troops, mean spirited merchants, or one particular union soldier, Hannah found mercy and love to spare . . . and when she got pushed into a corner by the devil's henchman, well, she spit fire . . . and called on Her Deliverer . . . Chasing the Sun is a great listen, full of grace, forgiveness, strength . . . and spunk!

    "Disappointed"
Would you ever listen to anything by Tracie Peterson again?

Yes, I usually enjoy Tracie Peterson's books but this one was a real disappointment, not her usual quality.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Renee Raudman?

The voice used for the female character was terrible, very fake.

    "Marti one dimensional"

The little mgirl Marti character is a flat & one dimensional character. I realize she's not supposed to be a main character, but there were thousands of things you could have done to still make her character fun, light, charming, humorous, interesting, etc. but INSTEAD you made her a teeny irritating knat that just repeated whatever the previous character said they wanted... "I want [abc/xyz] too". She came across as a less than bright, brat with no personality of her own... just a snotty little magpie.

    "Religious Zealouscy!"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

After my first 30 minutes of listening, I thought "Wow, this author is religious!". After an hour, " Wow, this author isn't just religious, she's a zealot!". After two hours, I thought " Whoa, I got it all wrong. She is neither of those things. She is just openly mocking the Christian religions!". At that point I turned it off and was glad to be rid of it.

Has Chasing the Sun turned you off from other books in this genre?

Definitely won't be reading this author again!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator had a rather whinny tone.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was really disappointed in the book. I thought the story could have been a good one if every other line wasn't "praise God". Way over the top! Hard to follow the story there was so much preaching!

    Story
"Disappointed by the sole focus on faith"

Proselytizing. Within the first hour of the book (which is as far as I could get) every third word is "God". Bible verses are recited and everyone positive in the story is acting on "God's will". Could have been an awesome story with some depth and the omission of the heavy religious focus. Unless you are a devout Christian who has taken Jesus into your heart, this is not the book for you.
