I met Sarah Kate Erickson when I was 21 years old. I was lucky enough to keep her for seven years before a tragic accident stole her from me. She didn't die, but sometimes I think it would have been easier if she had. I lived in a haze for those four years after the accident. Catering to her every need, even though she hated the very sight of my face. I tried to hold on to her and the future that we were supposed to build together. But you can't hold on to someone that doesn't exist anymore. It wasn't until I met Jesse Addison, a barista at the local coffee shop, that I realized I didn't just lose Sarah that tragic night; I lost myself as well.

"WOW...... NOW I'M EMOTIONALLY WRECKED & RUINED"
This tragic and haunting book grabbed me from Chapter 1 as I got caught-up in the heartbreaking story of Brett, Sarah and Jesse and the curveball life threw at them all and two other secondary, but important, characters. For seven years Brett has been damaged, drained and finally broken over his wife Sarah and even when he's with Jesse he just can't let go.
What a roller coaster of an emotional journey this love story takes you on through beautiful then painful flashbacks of the past to beautiful then painful events of present day as the loving, supportive and devoted Jesse gives it her all, in a very raw and volatile relationship, in the hopes she'll eventually break through and win Brett's heart. There's passionate pleas, plenty of tears, vicious encounters, amazing loving fun filled days, humor, heartache, sweeping romantic gestures and lots of sex all told from dual POV's. Now I'm not a fan of dual narrators but they did a great job with the handful of characters and all the emotions this story called for.
Worth a credit? I really really didn't want to hit pause or stop (and I've got the bags under my eyes this morning to prove it) as I was holding on for the HEA but I never expected it to be so, so,....... oh listen, feel and learn firsthand about it's climactic ending. Don't start this book until you've cleared the hours to devote to a great listen. Worth a credit.... Hell yes.
"Excellent Surprise Great Story"
Because I am not familiar with the arthur, I was hesitant. This was better than I expected. I enjoyed this book as much as KA's books. definitely worth the read. I couldn't put it down.
Very engaging story with well written characters. Really enjoyed even more the second read. Also excellent narration.
"Great story + fantastic narrators = big win"
Wow. What a story and so well told! I can't wait to read more from this author.
Because I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christian Fox and Lucy Rivers, a couple of sections near the end just didn't translate well. I wasn't sure what was going on and I think reading it in print would have been better. However, these narrators were just fabulous and if that's the trade-off, I'll take it.
This story really did have it all and I couldn't put it down. Romance, tragedy, more romance, screwed up people, more romance, drama, happy ending. I'm so glad I found this - thanks Audible!
"loved loved loved it!"
Loved the storyline. Loved the characters. Loved the narrators. Just loved everything about this book. Can't wait to read more by Aly
"absolutely beautiful story"
This was one of my favorite books ever. I loved all of the characters except Sarah, of course. This was a beautifully written story with so much depth and meaning that no review I write could do it justice. Just read it or listen to the audio version which is what I did. Phenomenal!!
When Brett goes to visit his wife
When Brett cut ties
When Caleb found Brett holding his bloody wife and begging for help
This book was pretty emotional: the flashbacks of Brett holding his bloody wife; the enduring friendship between Caleb and Brett; the pain and loss these two endured. You could have knocked me over with a feather when the whole Brett and his wife mystery came out. I felt for him-the life he had, the life he has. Overall, I really liked it. I'm going to read the next book as soon as I can.
Brett losses his wife the night that she and her best friend are involved in a horrific car crash that takes the life of the best friend and takes his wife's life as they knew it. Brett has been fighting to stand by his wife for 4 years despite the fact that she does not want to be married to him anymore. Brett meets Jesse who helps him find a second chance at love so he can finally let go of his wife to find his happily ever after. The book was hard to put down, it kept me enthralled at all times!. I highly recommend this story.
"Worth your time"
I had this book sitting there for a while I thought it was going to be really sad so I put it off.
I'm glad I finally got around to to. It was sad but the story was quite different to what I was expecting and I enjoyed a story line I've not read before. It was witty, funny at times and yes sad. I really enjoyed the characters and was engaged in their lives. It was a feel good, feel sad book. Very enjoyable.
"Wouldn't change a thing"
This book is everything. The performance is everything. I cried happy tears, sad tears, frightened tears, overwhelming tears... I'm always amazed when an author can make a reader/listener feel so deeply. Don't even wait for your credits to come... Just buy it.
