"COUPLE, LOOKOUT POINT, HOOK IN DOOR"
On the one hand all collections have losers and this has a larger share of losers than most. On the other hand it is only 69 cents, making it worth taking a chance. There were 22 stories, some of them extremely short and hard to even be considered stories. I was glad I spend the 69 cents. I enjoyed the following stories, Women Seeking Men, Tracking, Bubblehead Road, We Find Ourselves Infested and For Everything There is a Season. Most of the rest were predictable and not even close to scary. None of these are in the class of J.A. Konrath or Blake Crouch or Stephen King, but they don't offer anything at this price either.
HAVE YOU EVER HAD A GUN POINTED AT YOU?
I found it funny that while listening I was trying to think how I would describe most of the stories and the old story about the couple making out in a car and finding a hook in the door or trunk the next day kept coming to my head as a way to explain and than in one of the stories she mentions that very story. This is a debut collection and the author is very young. Someday you may want to be able to say you read her stuff before it cost an arm and a leg. I thought the first three stories were pretty lame and if you think the same than just skip to the stores I have mentioned above. It's 69 cents.
MARIO LOPEZ SHIRTLESS
The narrator is very good, not up there with Porter , Wheaton or some of the others, but not bad either. The only problem I had was that the majority of characters were female and I believe a female narrator would have worked better.
"I Need More!"
Yes! It's quite an interesting collection of stories and I think there's something in it to appeal to every reader or listener. It was my introduction to M.J. Pack and I am now hunting down the rest of her horror writing. Awesome writing and voice acting make it a definite favourite.
At first, I thought it was an odd choice to have a male narrating so many female-based stories by a female author, but I have to admit that I absolutely loved his acting. "For Everything There Is a Season (Danny's Story)" was utterly amazing. His voice!
I really thought this was a great book of short stories, really made me say what the...F@&! many times... I even had to rewind to make sure I heard the ending correctly sometimes.
He was wonderful. I thought it would be difficult to hear a man voicing a girls character because so many narrators are not so good at it but he did amazing.
I think it would be awesome for this book to be turned into a mini series like on Netflix because of stories but to name it.... the title of the book is already perfect for it so just leave it. "Certain Dark Things"
I wish there was more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"😳 Literary Horror"
Beautiful, complex and horrific short stories told by an enthusiastic narrator. This is one book that must be listened to! Reminiscent of the greats: Lovecraft and Poe.
"MJ wants to scare you!"
MJ never disappoints! She is part of the new face of horror! Absolutely brilliant work.
"not what I expected but... entertaining"
some good, some bad. but good enough to finish. not all stories are what I'd call horror but those are at least fast paced enough that I wasn,t bored for long.
Yes, probably. Jacob York is quite an interesting narrator, and, while some stories were slow, M.J. Pack did have several that interested me enough to try more.
There were several stories that weren't really very intense or thrilling? There were several that were slow and un-interesting. Though there were a handful, just enough, that were cringe-worthy enough to make me want more.
MARIO LOPEZ SHIRTLESS was one of the most interesting stories in the collection.
Turn the lights on?
Great narrator. most stories were good enough to be chilling. good listen if you like horror.
"I want more!"
This book went way too fast! The stories were really good! The variety with terrific and kept me wanting more. Seriously, the book ended way too soon 😩
"keeps you on your toes!!!!!"
as you follow the winding path of short enchantingly dark stories, you can't help but be fascinated by each character however brief they maybe. If you like well written short stories i recommend this book to you!
