    "Intriguing"

This book is not as good as Behind the scenes of the Museum (BTSOTM), but it was certainly intriguing, interesting, and gripping. With BTSOTM I listened to that book over and over enjoying different aspects and nuances of the story. It was like a long sastisfying 4 course meal. Case Histories is more of a light lunch, but it was still very enjoyable and well worth a 'read'

    "Kate Atkinson does it again!"

If you loved 'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' and 'Human Croquet' you will love this.

Kate Atkinson has successfully intermingled her characters and several plots to produce an engrossing story that keeps you wondering and questioning right up to the final denouements. Susan Jameson's reading is perfect.

    "Hard Labour"

Kate Atkinson is a good writer but sometimes her work can be a bit contrived. This book was enjoyable but it felt overplanned - the carefully plotted parallel story lines and slowly revealed links were a bit laboured. If I had been reading the book I would have been tempted to skip though pages. Still, she creates good characters and tells a good story.

    "Intriguing and amusing detective stories"

I really enjoyed the Jackson Brodie series. The stories are witty and are genuinely unpredictable. The only reason I haven't given this a 5 star marking is that I could never fully understand why the female characters have such a 'downer' on Jackson. I think he is pretty close to perfect.

    "Intriguing"

Having read a number of Kate Atkinson books before and enjoyed them, this seemed like a good choice for an audio book to listen to whilst on a touring holiday, and it proved to be just that. It is well read by Susan Jameson and the characters were made to seem believable (which isn't always the case - I will search out more books read by her). At first I was concerned that the 'case histories' weren't going to be linked at all (something that frustrated me with the latest Sebastian Faulks novel), and then I was afraid that any linkage was going to be so contrived as to be facile. However, I was wrong on both counts - I should have trusted Kate Atkinson's story telling abilities. All in all this was great book which I would thoroughly recommend.

"The reading voice makes such a difference"

The continuous cross, outraged tone of the reader ruined this book for me. All humour and subtlety lost.

    "A True Companion"

I have been listening to this brilliant audiobook while being in a hospital. It was a comfort among my vicissitudes. A clever, clear prose, where every sentence is a gem, an exciting, thougt-provoquing plot with unforgettable, vividly described characters. If you're looking for a proper crime story with investigation and bullets, forget it. It's a human story like each Atkinson-novel.

Mrs. Jameson is an ideal narrator for this one, a preparated, professional, animated persona who never hams. She added an other 100% to this delightful novel.

As soon as I get home I checked Audible for Jackson Brodie Mysteries part 2. I found only an abridged version. OK, I never read incomplete books cut by who-knows who. That's how my romance with Mr. Brodie came to an early end. I'm awfully sorry. Couldn't you just sell an unabridged version of 'One Good Turn', my dear Audible?

I really enjoyed this beautifully written book. The threads that semed unconnected at the beginning all came together beautifully and not always how you expected them to.

    "Enjoyable but not Riveting"

This is the first Kate Atkinson I have read and in the beginning I really enjoyed it and thought I would continue to do so. It is extremely well written, lovely prose, witty and very descriptive.

However, whilst it was a snapshot of lives and the problems surrounding the characters it seemed to lack a real storyline, no beginning, middle and end. Nothing seemed to really pull together. The end just seemed to fizzle out, certainly no twists or turns anywhere.

Having said that I did enjoy it but just did not find myself rushing to listen at every opportunity.

I liked the way in which the mysteries were revealed and then resolved throughout the story. All of the characters are believable and their stories plausible. A very satisfying book.

    "Hooray for Susan Jameson"

I'm very impressed with Kate Atkinson's well-written go at the private investigator genre because it's wonderfully atypical and unusually accomplished for that brand of fiction (which I love). And I have to rave about the narrator, Susan Jameson! What a performance! I feel as though I have real memories of at least 10 different men, women, and kids. This was a very satisfying book for me because the story progressed more like life does, without results predictably handed over every chapter. Between the writing and the narration I got more than I paid for, including some good laughter as well as a few tears.

    "Hooray for Kate Atkinson"

Hooray for Kate Atkinson she is truly a gifted writer. I loved the characters and found them to be realistic. She described the way people live in England truthfully and so incredibly well. This book was totally wonderful and really held my attention throughout. I LOVED IT and would recommend this author again without any hesitation.

    "Very depressing and disjointed"

The stars are only for the narrator, not for the story which I found depressing, strange and unnecessarily convoluted. Few of the characters were believable and several were ridiculous. This is the first audible book that that I deleted straight after it was finished.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Something happier.

What didn’t you like about Susan Jameson’s performance?

    Flat and boring delivery

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Case Histories?

    The start and the end.

    Any additional comments?

I did not finish it. It gave me the creeps.
