Publisher's Summary

Skye Morrison has a lot in common with today's college graduates: she's neck deep in student loan debt and desperate for a better-paying job. For four years the nightlife of Austin, Texas (home of Skye's alma mater), has satiated her thirst for good music, a revamp in fashion, and men - especially local musician Jameson Doyle, but her spot as a waitress at Drop Kick Dan's bar isn't going to cut the slack. A personal life troubled by a hounding ex only makes matters worse. Skye was never the damsel in distress type, but when an unexpected public shouting match with her ex turns physical, a savior disguised as a heavenly, gorgeous Irishman comes to her rescue. Archer Rhys, a businessman with a lot to offer, doesn't exactly sweep Skye off her feet, but she can't help but to be captivated by his ravenous good looks. When Archer makes Skye a lucrative job offer as his personal assistant for his new downtown Austin club, The Mausoleum, she quickly finds out that she may have gotten more than she bargained for.

In this breakout novel, J.L. McCoy takes the reader on an indulgent descent into a modern-day counterculture of nighttime extravagances. Close your eyes, succumb to intense passion, sip a Vampire's Kiss, and let the pounding of the club music overtake you. With animated detail, you'll find yourself on an unimaginable journey deep into the lair and grasp of Archer Rhys and his mind games. Distracted by Jameson's charm and blinded by Archer's allure and generous paycheck, Skye's new life invokes the reader's empathy as she's surrounded by a whirlwind of desire, deceit, and even death. Blood of the Son - this isn't your little sister's vampire novel.

What made the experience of listening to Blood of the Son the most enjoyable?

    Story line is great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

    Skye Morrison

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The voice actress has a lovely accent, but the timing is all wrong, parts sound rushed and frenetic, other parts aren't as bad - but the weirdly fast pace really doesn't go with the beautiful southern American accent. The pauses in the narration are also in odd places. It just doesn't sound right - which is a shame as I really like these books.

I've tried several times to get into it, but it just isn't happening.

What did you like best about Blood of the Son? What did you like least?

Narration-wise, I really loved Aris' accents. Story wise, I was quite fond of how independant the main character was.

I disliked how repetitive the story was.

Would you recommend Blood of the Son to your friends? Why or why not?

I did like the story, and I would suggest they give it a try. But I would also warn them there are issues.

Have you listened to any of Aris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    This is the first.

Was Blood of the Son worth the listening time?

Yes. I had a hard time pausing the story. The only reason I did was because I am around kids a majority of the day, and this story is not kid-friendly.

Okay, for some reason, when the narrator spoke as Archer, it made me giggle! I'm not sure why, but it really did. Overall, I think that she did a good job. She had a good tone, a good speed, and spoke clearly. I wasn't so sure about her accent for Trey, but that could be because I have how I feel his voice should be in my head, and couldn't get passed it not sounding like I wanted it to. I fell in love with Jameson all over again listening to this, and am excited to re-visit the other books in this series when more audibles are available.

    Bob says: 4 Platypires!
