In Blood and Smoke, Stephen King takes us inside a world of yearning and paranoia, isolation and addiction. It is the world of the smoker. In this audio-only collection, the now politically incorrect habit plays a key role in the fates of three different men in three unabridged stories of unfiltered suspense. In Lunch at the Gotham Café, Steve Davis is suffering through intense withdrawal - from both nicotine and his wife. His desperation for a cigarette and for his ex are almost too much to bear, but that's nothing compared to the horrors that await him at a trendy Manhattan restaurant. In 1408, Mike Enslin, best selling author of "true" ghost stories, decides to spend the night in New York City's most haunted hotel room. But he must live to write about it without the help of his ex best-friends, his trusty smokes. And in In the Deathroom, a man named Fletcher is held captive in a Central American stronghold. His captors will use any torturous means necessary to extract the information they want from him. His only hope lies with his last request - one last cigarette, please.

I love Stephen King. I have been collecting his books for as long as I can remember. These stories all appear elsewhere and I have read them all previously, and enjoyed them. This is a collection of three excellent stories, my only slight negative comments are:
1. I think that something King's character Paul Sheldon said in 'Misery' rings true - that you might be a good storywriter, but not necessarily a good storyteller! I was a little disappointed with Stephen King's narration. Found it somewhat bland.
2. The topic this is supposedly based on, smoking, is rather a loose connection at best.
But these are minor complaints really, the stories themselves are great and I enjoyed listening to them, after having read them before.
Very cool to have the stories read to you by the author. The middle story, "1408", is creepy and intense - a great ghost story.
Stephen King always suprises you. If you enjoy reading something besides the standard "Scary Carrie" stories, try this collection which represents an amalgam of short works on the theme of smoking. Not only will you enjoy the stories, you'll probably find ample reason to quit smoking after doing so.
1408 is one of the best audio ghost stories you'll ever hear. Perfect for cross country drive at night.
"Enjoying Stephen King again"
I have no time to read. I have two kids and a full time job so this is perfect. Getting used to Stephen's voice takes a little time, but if you have seen him on tv or in person talking its much easier to get used to it. As for his reading, its just great. People have said that hes one tone or boring, well he is a professional writer and this is not his usual gig. I look at this as a gift of sorts and we could have done much worse than this.
I've downloaded all of his books that he reads and I'm glad I did. You never know when a treasure like this will be gone for good.
While not the best narrator, the author actually gives an admirable performance, so don't let that put you off.
Suspenseful, well-written, and solid delivery. Classic King.
Lol. Not my first round with this collection, but I still cannot get enough of Lunch at the Gothem Cafe. It always gets me rolling. Definately creepy, but totally enjoyable.
It is a revist to stories that you have already read or heard if your a King fan. I was surprised to find that I knew all of these stories. I had thought this was a different collection.
It's a King book which makes it interesting as the majority of his stories are page turners. The least interesting is that this is again stories that I already have from previous books.
No this was the first time I've had an audio book where Stephen King was the narrator. It was a very pleasant surprise.
Neither it was pleasant.
i just finished the Lovecraft audio book and King is right in there! And I really like the books that King reads.
"King if stories!"
I collect king's writings. he is awesome writer and I enjoy his reading too!
"The king of story's"
Loved his story's every time he put his own spin to crime story's to make them more interesting to listen to
