After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he's also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.
With everyone in class vying to be one of the 12 disciples - a group of 12 students that Professor Black takes under his wing - tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.
But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best - and that's Levi Black.
But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

This is one of those sweet books, where both characters just belong together. The female/male viewpoints worked really well. If you enjoy romances, with a few twists along the way then certainly give this a read. It's definitely a feel good kinda book.
This is the first book I have read/listened to by this author and I will now check out some other stories. This was fun, sexy and had a good story.
Good story, a little bit funny, a little thrilling but throughly engaging. Sexy read, good chemistry between the leads, would have liked Thea to come round quicker though.
Good audio performances. Really liked that it was read by a male and female voice and the additional sound effects were a treat.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved the characters, dialogues and the narration.
This is the first audible I heard that adds the extra noises to the story and it made it more vivid and real.
Both voice actors managed the voice transitions well each having to add several characters to their dialogues.
The plot had me enthralled and I wanted to keep listening to reach the conclusion.
Not your typical romance story. Although it has a taboo romance undertone I wish the author played more with that fact and make it more angsty. Loved the fact that the lead character didn't have an emotional baggage and he was just going for what he wants.
Inter racial romance - about time. This was a refreshing change from the sameness coming from this genre of reading, I really liked that race wasn't overplayed but broached none the less.
Great storyline, so many aspects to the story, loved the lawyer role and the intelligent strong woman lead.
This book has broken the mould on several levels.
I found the male voice a little hard to listen to sometimes, slight over acting. but otherwise very good
"The Verdicts In .... Five Solid Stars!"
I loved, LOVED, this story and performance! It was AWESOME! And I am soooo ashamed to admit I freakin` couldn't turn it off! I was literally up till after 3:30am when the story finally ended. Thank goodness, I didn't have to work today!
Kudos to Aubrey Vincent and Marcio Catalano for such an spectacular performance! This is the first audiobook I've listened to narrated with Aubrey and she was great. I've listened to some of Marcio's other books, and dang he just keeps getting better with each story! This duo owned it, and brought the story and characters to life, and totally captivated me!
Black Rainbow drew me in with such a well developed plot, excellent characters, tons of sexual tension, and weaved in enough drama and suspense, I was hooked from chapter one.
Well worth my time (even if I'm sleep deprived), definitely worth a credit, or sale, but I have a fellow Audible member that I follow to thank for connecting me to such a great story! I knew you had great taste!
"Great story, characters & narrators!!"
What a great surprise!! This story was very good. It was a forbidden romance between teacher & student. However, had interesting twists and turns, great secondary characters, who were well developed. The main characters were awesome. The flow of the relationship was good. I'm not alway a fan of dual narrative. The sexual tension gets a little watered down when you hear the inner monologue of both characters, and when you hear 1st hand the mutual attraction it can feel like insta-love. When the pov is only from one side sometimes it ratchets up the sexual tension!!! In the case of Black Rainbow the dual POV was great. I also liked that the Hero was NOT a manwhore and the heroine was NOT this quirky wallflower, who once she is noticed by the Hero is all of the sudden the most attractive women to enter a room/bar/ restaurant. The heroine Thea Cunning is FEIRCE long before meeting Mr Black. I felt like I knew them well by the end of their story. This is the 1st book I have listened too by JJ McAvoy, so glad I did. Stand alone - no cliff hanger!!
I loved every minute of this book. Thia and Levi was so good together. smart, sexy and heated is what i will call it.
"Hot, sexy and hilarious!!! "
This book has everything..... from hot and steamy sex scenes with funny and outlandish banter. The narrator's are fantastic with panty dropping voices...did I forget to mention that it's HOT!!!
It took me a minute to get into because I was thinking the plot was going to be superficial but PEOPLE! It wasn't. It was so much more than I thought it would be and I loved every emotional second of it. And then you add in the sexiest of all love scenes... it was HOT.
Aubrey Vincent and Marcio Catalano were great for the characters. Although Marcio might not want to sing in an audio again 🤣
"fantastic story well written hell of a story line."
needs a follow up as to the future of the black family as well as the law firm and all new lawyers that were introduced I think you could be a hell of a series
I loved the plot: I expected the usual angsty, forbidden love story between a student and her professor but this was so much more, way more complex, and absolutely not cliched. The student-teacher angle was actually only the beginning of the whole plot.
I loved the characters: they were incredibly attractive in their complexities and I was sorry to let them go at the end!
But... I especially loved the narration, it was absolutely perfectly executed. Both the female and male narrators were great and the entire thing was so well done (including sound effects!), it simply drew you in. I usually alternate between the written version of books and the audible version, only using the audible version when I can't physically read, but in this case I simply couldn't stop LISTENING. I didn't read a single word!
It was great.
well narrated. good story. recommend to all who enjoy reading about legal issues mixed with love and security and a who'd one it too.
"Coloured rainbow for Professor Black"
I loved how this book captivated me from the start and ended exactly how it should have. No surprises but just good old fashion happy ever after. Both characters had their flaws but, they were both driven and worked hard for what they wanted. Having the point of view from Levi alternating with Thea's kept the flow of each individual reactions flowing nicely. I just loved how Levi was not only this tough untouchable professor who everyone was intimidated by, but, also was able to fight for that love, that he could so easily give. Thea was fantastic with her families predicament. What a role model for her sister. I loved how her sister evolved. Obviously having the unwavering love and support from her sister and grandmother allowed her to explore her darker side and come out the other end a better person.
The extra added sound effects I understand how they were annoying to some people. They neither distracted me or added to the story.
Both characters came to life with these very talented performers. I was hanging onto their every word.
I couldn't imagine anyone not having some sort of reaction when Levi finally found out about Thea's mother. I was guttered when Thea told Levi that her mother was the shark cos she ate her young. What mother could allow that to happen to their daughters.
"Great book, easy to listen and enjoy"
This book was very light although the H/h had their demons and not so perfect past. The story was sweet and entertaining.
It was a little weird to see that Levi was able to be 2 totally different people and Thea accepted and never found it annoying. The loving and sweet boyfriend and the ruthless lawyer / professor that no one liked wrapped in one person...
A little strange that nothing was done when everyone found out about a professor 13 years older than his student, having an affair with her.
The way the crime was sorted out at the end was too fast and easy. Again, not so real - that is why I did not give it 5 stars.
Enjoyable reading though, worth the time and money.
