A weekend fling in Atlantic City couldn't be more out of socially shy Zach Cohen's comfort zone, but a bet with his best friends forces him to put aside the humiliation he's hidden for years and step away from behind his computer screens and online world. When he meets Sam Stein, despite their spark, Zach expects nothing more than a night of passion and a kiss good-bye. Yet weeks later, he can't keep the man out of his head.
After a split-second decision with tragic results ends his 20-year police career at the same time as his relationship falls apart, Sam Stein is drifting through life. At his best friend's urging, he agrees to a trip to Atlantic City to clear his head. What Sam doesn't plan on is meeting Zach Cohen, whose sweet nature and honesty has him thinking that maybe he could move forward.

"Excellent narration of a heartfelt story"
I read this wonderful story when it was released, and grabbed up the audio when it came out. As someone who listens to a great many audiobooks, I'm quite discerning in my opinion of narration. I'm happy to say Marc Bachmann gives a brilliant performance with Betting on Forever. This book not only features the two main characters Zach and Sam, but also their four best friends, both of their mothers, and several other side characters. Mr. Bachmann gives everyone a distinct and fitting voice - complete with NYC flavor - while turning no one into a caricatrure. I had the most enjoyable time listening to this as I took a road trip. It made the miles fly by. I'll be seeking out other titles by this narrator.
This is my favorite story by Felice Stevens. Zach and Sam are both men who've been hurt by life and by love, something most of us can relate to! Having gotten to know Zach somewhat in 'Second to None' I was eager to uncover his layers and see him get his chance at happiness. It didn't come easy! I fell for the sexy and affable Sam as quickly as Zach did and was soon caught up in their struggle to overcome old fears, habits and heartache.
What I love best is the author's ability to make the character's journeys so relatable to the reader. Nothing felt contrived or forced. Both men had to make conscious effort to move out of comfort zones, to take risks and let the chips fall. All of their friends were there to support without being pushy or preachy. Best friends who are meddlesome are a turn-off for me but this is so not the case with Marcus, Julian, Nick and Henry. After a lot of soul searching, heart-to-hearts, scorching sex, and few arguments - Zach and Sam ended up in a sweet, loving place in their lives. The follow through with their mothers' journeys was also great to see, as was the advancing of Julian and Nick's relationship. A very genuine and heartwarming story.
"Perfection once again! "
From the beginning Zach needed his story and damn it's a good one. Loved both the guys and their struggles to learn to not only trust each other but themselves. Wonderfully sweet story. Can't wait for Marcus to fall. :D
