Ashley James was through with men. But, she was also a professional. How she ended up working for the first man to break her heart while in the middle of a nasty breakup with the current man who'd broken her heart, she didn't know. One of life's cruel jokes, she guessed. Well, the joke was on life. Her job was the one thing that made sense in her life. And, she wasn't going to let stupid men take that from her. If her ex, Nick Connor, was her client, so be it. She would do this job just as competently as she always did...as soon as she mustered the courage to get out of her car and go into Nick's office.
Nick Connor thought he'd never see Ashley James again. She'd disappeared without a trace after he'd messed up and hurt her all those years ago. He thought he'd lost the only woman he'd ever loved. Now fate had brought them back together. Only, she's ending a long-term relationship and men aren't exactly on her list of favorite people. And he is definitely at the top of her "people she hates" list. He may not know what to do, but there's no way he'll let her get away from him a second time.

An interesting modern romance about not wasting second chances. I liked the way Marla Josephs contrasts Ashley's relationship with Zack and her past relationship with Nick. Of course what seems obvious isn't and not all mistakes, despite how similar, weigh in the same. The story moves quite quickly, making it easy to listen to. I just wish the ending wasn't quite so abrupt.
D. C. Coke gives a wonderful narration and is easy to listen to.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
This was a very enjoyable audiobook to listen to. I was intrigued from the beginning The story was believable and I felt that it progressed at a good pace.
Ashley is a good strong character and I totally agreed with the way she felt about both her current ex, Zach and her past ex, Nick. Very different cases of cheating.
"An Angry Ashley Will Tell You About Yourself!"
This audiobook is everything that a lighthearted contemporary romance novel should be! Ashley James and Nick Connor were first friends and then high school lovers. Ready to head off to separate colleges Nick gets caught with his pants down, Literally! How thoughtful that someone captured the moment for all prosperity. When the picture is texted to Nick, this top jock is in the race of his life to get to Ashley before the infamous picture. Unfortunately, for probably the first time in Nick’s life he loses.
Years later it deja vu, all over again when Ashley’s live in boyfriend turns out to be a serial cheater and Ashley’s officially out for the count.
Of course, that’s when fate brings her first love back into her life. What I really like about this story is that Ashley is wounded and she makes no bones about the fact that she’s angry with both men and she’s not going to just get over the betrayal, but she’s intelligent enough to discern the moral differences between the two men.
This audiobook is narrated by D. C. Cole, he has a gruff voice but his range of conveying emotion for both male and female characters was awesome and I actually found his reading to be soothing! The production quality is clear throughout this audiobook.
This audiobook was given to me to me at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review, thanks, Audiobook Boom!
"2nd Chance @ Love Romance w/Hot Narrator"
I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator in exchange for an unbiased review. Marla Josephs has written another real to life and realistic romance story. This story can be read/listened to as a stand-a-lone or continuation in a series. This was my first experience with DC Cole as a narrator, and loved his voice and ability to bring the characters and story to life. He has a very sexy and smokey/gravely voice. I enjoyed the story and narration very much and encourage others to give this up and coming author a try.
"Loved this book"
Captivating story and charming lead character Nick. I found myself rooting for him to win Ashley's heart again. Talk about major chemistry. And the narrators voice. Very sexy.
I've got to give the author major kudos for creating this great book. It's hard to say, but I think it's got to be my favorite of Marla Josephs books. I really enjoy all her books and always recommend them to all my reader friends but Betrayed captivated me. I highly recommend it.
Most definitely will be listening to this again, so it ranks quite high.
The book was so beautifully written and D.C Coles narrating took you along on the journey and made you like them all, so I can't pick just one. 😀
I've had the pleasure to listen to all of D.C Coles released work, and his performance is always powerful and consistent and this ranks side by side with them all.
Giving love a second chance
So happy that I discovered another talented author, and the bonus is she had D.C Cole narrate her book. I'm winning in all round.. 😜
"glad I got to listen to this!"
I'm starting to really enjoy D.C Cole. I was a little worried going in but I enjoyed the story and narration. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
"Loved it, great characters!"
Yes, it was well written and well narrated, I found it very enjoyable to listen to.
I have two favorite aspects:
First is the characters, they were really well developed and I felt like they were people I could run into on the street.
Second is the way the past and present were told in chunks at the beginning so we were learning about who the characters are and how their history affected their present.
I definitely want to hear more of this series, it's a definite hit for me.
Note: This book was supplied free in return for an honest review.
Love this book. I loved Nick and Ashley together and loved them both as individuals. Very well written D.C. Cole did a great job bringing then story to life. I highly recommend it.
"Dazed and confused"
All right, OK I get it. It is in the Reluctant series (right on the cover duh!!!) But still, ?? (Spoiler alert) a seemingly intelligent woman is offered a plausible explanation for past hurts and a relationship with, well the man of her dreams. Does she go for it? You will have to read to find out But this is my review and for me the protagonist and her motivation or lack there of did not ring true. This book was well written and suburbly narrated and enjoyable on many levels but it left me wanting to shake some sense into her. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher and I hope that my review did not disappoint.
"Not a new story but still worth the time"
This listen was my first in this series but it felt like I was getting a complete story. It was a basic boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back story line. I loved the narration and there was enough special to the backstory that this was a good listen. Totally worth the time!
