Ember Walsh is a trusting soul with the quiet beauty of her late mother, who perished in a mysterious car crash when Ember was three. A little tomboyish from being raised by her father, Ember packs a punch when a stranger gets pushy with her in a bar, catching the steely blue eyes of a tall, gorgeous tattooed man - Trace Montgomery. Still damaged from her last disastrous relationship and warned off the bad boy by friends, Ember fights the smoldering heat that Trace sparks in her when he begins shadowing her like a dark angel.
Burdened by a lifetime of horror and heartbreak, amateur fighter Trace doesn't want to want Ember. His deep self-loathing keeps him from having any meaningful relationships, but Ember is an itch he can't scratch. The two push and pull, slowly crumbling their walls, seemingly brought together by fate, because the turmoil that haunts their pasts is interlinked in undeniable ways. But can these two fighters finally lay down their arms?

"Not for me"
I like strong funny women, she is not that. Found so much of the story not believable. I returned this book half way through.
"Such potential for a great story and such a shame"
The author should have spent more time building their relationship up. The story didn't have a good indication as to why the girl would fall so hard for this guy in a matter of brief meetings, to the point of almost worship. There wasn't enough depth in the story. Also, the girl in the story was sooooo annoying! Get a backbone! Have some self respect!
I literally rolled my eyes about every half hour at how weak and pathetic the girl was in different situations.
She did a great job in every aspect.
The scenes were Trace told her to leave, to get out and they were over and Ember would follow him everywhere.
This story has great potential with the right 'tweeking' here and there. Was very disappointed to see such a good story get ruined the way it was.
"What a Surprise!!!"
It is one of the most exciting and interesting books I've listened. Surprising, romantic, emotional. Exquisite!
The plot was so complex. Many side plots and characters making the story so interesting and addictive.
My favorite scene was the one when Amber proposed :-)
Yes!!! And I almost did ;-)
I have bought this book as a romance. I was seeking a nice story with a hot hero and some bad boy actions. What I got was soooo much more. It is truly one of the best books I've listened because of all the extraordinarily balanced drama, crime, romance and action. I'm waiting for the next book from this series.
"Love and Intrigue"
A great listen. enough to make you want to keep listening
There was a story
Thought I had it figured out and then it changed--great book. Amy Rubinate does another great job as narrator.
"im not sure where this went wrong"
I have read this book 2 times and I liked it, however after listening to it be read in a breathy voice with really bad renditions of male voices I now cant imagine why I liked it. The characters are kind of ridiculous and the story line started one place and ended up someplace totally different. This did not bother me when reading this book but after listening, this kind of reminds me of one of those ideas that sounded good in theory but once you started telling others about it kind of sounded dumb instead. I keep forgetting that I dont like the narrtors voice. she makes everything sound like im listening in on a sexy phone call. And the men sound girly dumb or like hillbillys.
I did not enjoy the narration of this book nor the story itself. The characters were contradictory and underdeveloped. While there were some semi-interesting twists and turns in the plot, at a point the twists became annoying because there were just too many. I thought Ember's obsession with Trace got annoying and happened too quickly with too little build up. I do not recommend this book at all, it was out of sheer stubbornness that I even finished it.
"Lots of interesting twists!"
I loved how well everyone's story is connected to the ultimate healing of someone overcoming their demons. I also love how each friend and family member was connected and how essential they were in revealing secrets.
I fell in love with Trace. No matter what he went through in life his morals and need to protect the innocent was solid. The fact that Trace ultimately accepts that he is not his father was my most favorite revelation.
Braving the unknown can heal old wounds.
This would be a great movie!
"second half was good"
I almost gave up on this book SO MANY times. the heroine is a doormat an she never grows a back bone an that drove me nuts. She won't leave the hero no matter what he does. luckily by the second half he treats her better
Beautiful story capped with a fantastic performance. I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to listen to the next in series.
