Summary

Are You Experienced is a devastatingly funny satire on the whole idea of student travel - particularly the India backpack trail. Dave travels to India with Liz because he thinks he might be able to get her into bed. Liz travels to India with Dave because she wants a companion for her voyage of spiritual discovery. She loves it. He dreams of frosty mornings, pints of lager and restaurants where vegetable curry is only a side-dish....

Funny and sweet

I really love this book. I read it first a few years ago and it made me laugh out loud. There is a real nostalgic sweetness about the 19 year old traveler.

What a performance.

Funniest book I ever listened too. I read it in my 20s. Catches the 90s so wonderfully.

Not sure which character is more annoying

Shallow and boring. I kept waiting for the actual story to start but there was none.

One of my all time favourites

I still laugh out loud every time I read/listen to this book, even after many many years of it being my go-to when I want a laugh. Can’t recommend it enough!

Enjoyed it again 20 years after I first read it

Like the previous reviewer, I first read this book many years ago and thought I'd give it another go on Audible having enjoyed it the first time around. I remembered the bit at the beginning about India being as 'hot as an oven' when Dave the central character and his travelling companion Liz land in Delhi. A real romp and highly satirical story follows. Would recommend.
