Richard Dawkins speaks sense....simples! I went on to purchase his book 'The God Delusion' and it was a deep thought provoking work that analyses every intelligent argument for science and against religion, particularly of the omnisicent eternal all knowing god types. He explains in detail all the types of Agnostic, Atheist and Believer etc. Some good humour in there too for those who may enjoy a dig at those who are quite frankly deluded.
I have to admit that I've had a bit of a prejudice against Richard Dawkins over his rather over-confident assertions about Darwin's theories completely explaining evolution. I'm a biologist (and certainly no creationist) but can see that there are grey areas that we can't explain. However, I was won over by this interview, in which he was reasonable and interesting, and I will certainly listen/read his book.
Richard Dawkins is one of the great minds of our time. Heavily opposing all forms of religion, he is not afraid to speak his mind and explain his position. Very cleverly so, I might add. A great little addition to the book 'The God Delusion'. If you are ambivalent about the subject of faith at all or you just want to listen to a very gifted and intelligent wordsmith, this is a great listen.
Quite short but well worth listening too.
Richard, as ever, is honest , open and knowledgable. Interviewer asks some good questions too, avoiding some obvious ones.
It was quite interesting to hear the famous Richard Dawkins himself defending his ideas that God is a delusion. However, from my point of view, I think Dawkins has reached a wrong conclusion based on the arguments he had chosen. All his arguments points against almost all the established religions and not against God him or herself. The way most established religions has been interpreting the supposed message of God is a delusion, but that does note mean that the idea of God is a delusion. Now I am really curious to see if in his book he makes a better case against God or not.
This is excellent interview with richard Dawkins. This is really giveing very good introduction of his book The God Delusion and it is free download.
Good introduction to the writing and contrapuntal reading of the audiobook version of TGD, including some autobiographical detail by Dawkins on his own faith and subsequent rejection of it.
However, I was hoping for more detail of his own reasons for adopting atheism, or a summary of his arguments. He elaborates on his vertical transmission of the religious meme theory, and his "computer virus" analogy, but never addresses the well documented evidence, that religious people seem to live longer, be happier, and are healthier than the norm (which would indicate some benefit, not a harmful parasite).
Overall, interesting, but not much new in this interview. I really wanted to hear about the further development of his thinking since TGD was published.
Yes, because I think it gives and insight into Richard Dawkins and allays one's fear that he is the bible bashing equivalent on atheism as opposed to someone who simply has a very good argument against it.
Richard Dawkins. He's not really a character because he's real.
Is there a book?
It was really nice to hear an interview with an author I'm unsure about and very interesting to hear about why his audiobooks sound so good.
"Let me think deeper about religions"
I do not have any religion or it can be said that I do not believe in God. Richard Dawkins interview make me think more seriously about my belief.
"When can we get the audio book?"
This is a must read. I can't wait for it to be availble on audible.com!
Why can I get the interview on Audible but not the book. I really want to hear the book. "The God Delusion"
"The World is Round"
It was not that long ago in history when telling someone that "the world is round" would have been viewed as ridiculous, outrageous, or perhaps even illegal. We now take it as fact, but those earlier "non-believers" faced significant criticism or worse. The same is true about the earth rotating around the sun and hundreds of other facts, which we now take as facts, only because others were brave enough to oppose popular beliefs and speak the truth. Dawkins is one of those brave pioneers, who will go down in history as a bold discoverer, unafraid to passionately share his knowledge. Great interview and a classic must read book.
One of the best of the interviews out there with Dawkins...short but sweet!
"Interesting Points Of View"
I only listened to the preview sample of this book and I feel that it would be really good read. Dawkins presents some interesting points of view, but a person of faith myself I feel comfortable with where I'm at and where I'm going.
"Very good interview. Very interesting"
it's brief, but a very good and interesting interview. If you want a taste of Richard Dawkins, listen to this interview.
"Dawkins after all."
This material was not that original, and having read and watched a lot of Dawkins, I was a little disappointed. But if you are new to him, it isn't a bad interview.
"Didn't convince me to buy the book"
I was hoping the interview would get me interested in buying the book but I can't say it did.
"An interesting, brief summary of Dawkins' theology"
I've already heard a lot of Dawkins' talks and look forward to listening to a few of his more famous books. It was intriguing to hear things from a British rather than American perspective, and even when you've heard the topics before, Dawkins is always a powerful speaker and worth your time.
