Raheiran Special Forces captain Gillaine Davré has just woken up in some unknown space way station, wondering where the last 300 years have gone. The last thing she remembers is her ship being attacked. Now it seems that while she was time traveling, she was ordained a goddess....
Gillaine's only hope of survival rests with dangerously seductive Admiral Mack Makarian, who suspects her of being a smuggler - or worse. But he can't begin to imagine the full extent of it. For Gillaine is now Lady Kiasidira, holy icon to countless believers, including Mack, a man who inspires feelings in her that are far from saintly. But when their flirtation is interrupted by a treacherous enemy from the past, Gillaine's secret - and secret desires - could destroy them both.

"Love the print; less so the narrator"
This book, the story, is full of wry wit and humor, especially between Simon and Gillaine, and some serious interactions -- rather like life.
The perfect narrator for this book would be someone who could read the characters and situations instead of just the words. The perfect narrator would be able to do male characters with enough differences that you could tell who was who. And the perfect narrator could nuance humor. To me, this narrator failed on all counts. Not to say she isn't a clear and capable speaker, just not the person for this book.
I would suggest fans of the genre (or the book, if you've already read it) to skip this audio version, buy the book and spend some down time with it, your favorite beverage, and a little chocolate.
"Wanted to finish in 1 sitting!"
The story kept me wanting to listen until the end. It was a little different from other SciFi-Romance books I've read.
The characters were well written, no love triangles (which if not written well, are annoying), and no boring areas.
The narration was excellent! You could easily distinguish each character and their personalities. I would definitely look for other books read by Amy Landon.
Definitely! I listened in my car on the way to work & back home. Too bad work & sleep get in the way.
Looking forward to other installments.
I love sci-fi and this audiobook by one of its masters, Linnea Sinclair was so well done! I enjoyed every minute! Highly recommend!
"A New Format for a Favorite Book"
This is one of my favorite books. I read it at least once a year. I was so glad to see it as an audiobook that I bought it immediately. It is simply well-written and never gets stale.
Perhaps the elevator scene ... or the scene on the bridge of the Vedritor.
She subtly changes her vocal pitch so that one can tell the characters apart. Very helpful.
My plan is to listen to everything I can get my hands on by Linnea Sinclair, even though I've already read them in print.
"Standalone, fun, sci-fi romance"
3/5; 3 stars; B
I read this book quite a few years ago and remember thinking it was pretty good. I re-read it as an audiobook recently and downgraded my rating. I liked Amy Landon, the narrator, that wasn't the problem. It seems that I never really noticed the first time how annoying Gilly's tendency to lie and whine was. She was so obsessed with being 'normal' rather than being perceived as a goddess, that she behaved in a dishonest and somewhat spineless fashion. That put me right off.
Other than that, the book still had a fun sci-fi/fantasy/space opera feel. I liked the magic system and the sentient ship. Good fun.
"Interesting take on Sci-fi Romance"
I've read a few sci-fi romance that just ended up being alien men that were just like human men but bigger. This was not that. All the characters were human, (I think) but it was more like if the human race spread out over the next 5000 years and how different cultures would come from that. I wasn't really expecting the magic elements although they didn't detract from the book.
I really enjoyed it. The romance was slow. This wasn't your typical erotica porn. I liked it that way for the most part. While there was an instant connection between the two it wasn't unrealistic soulmates and undying love at first sight. It felt a little more real and was given time to progress and make you want to see them get together.
I thought the plot was interesting. Waking up centuries after an epic space battle to discover the people you saved thought you were a god. Interesting.
