And anyway, a rural retreat will bring her closer to Charlie, the only man in four years to make her heart beat faster. Perfect. Or it would be. If only he didn't belong to someone else...

Catherine Alloitt wrote a most enjoyable book. The main characters inner dialogue was hilarious! I have read both title she has with Audible and will be looking forward to more!
"British equivalent to A Ronconi/M Harper ..."
Few books make me LOL. This one did, plus smiles and snorts
Besides being funny it also has substance, it is definitely more than the usual chick lit
Do not expect a literary novel, but something more than just fun silliness.
Most of all i think the perfect combination of author and reader does the trick.
Certainly reminded me of A Ronconi and M Harper books.
I strongly recommend it!
"not her best"
I have read or listened to almost all of alliott novels, and whilst they are always good fun and entertaining, this is most certainly not alliotts best.
The characters are as always flawed and find themselves in mildly humour situations, but this particular audiobook there is too much drama going on, too much death, so that the humour seems out of place or perhaps it is vice versa.
Stick to her books like a rural affair (the best in my opionion) or even a crowded marriage.
However, all story aspects set aside, suzy aitchison the narrator is as always, fantastic.
Have yet to hear anyone who is as good as her.
