Publisher's Summary

Lady Patrina Tidemore gave up on the ridiculous notion of true love after having her heart shattered and her trust destroyed by a black-hearted cad. Used as a pawn in a game of revenge against her brother, Patrina returns to London from a failed elopement with a tattered reputation and little hope for a respectable match. The only peace she finds is in her solitude on the cold winter days at Hyde Park. And even that is yanked from her by two little hellions who just happen to have a devastatingly handsome, but coldly aloof father, the Marquess of Beaufort. Something about the lord stirs the dreams she'd once carried for an honorable gentleman's love.

Weston Aldridge, the Fourth Marquess of Beaufort was deceived and betrayed by his late wife. In her faithlessness, he's come to view women as self-serving, indulgent creatures. Except, after a series of chance encounters with Patrina, he comes to appreciate how uniquely different she is than all women he's ever known.

At the Christmastide season, a time of hope and new beginnings, Patrina and Weston, unexpectedly learn true love in one another. However, as Patrina's scandalous past threatens their future and the happiness of his children, they are both left to determine if love is enough.

    "Too slow and repetitive"

I don't mind a slow book as long as the details are interesting. Unfortunately, the author repeated the same points too many times. I, however, very much appreciated that the author has a good vocabulary and the book was well written.

    Story
"Really 2 1/2 star read and 3 star narration.."

I’ve read CC’s book My Lady of Deception and gave it 3 stars, and I’ve read For Love of the Duke and gave it 4. This one is somewhere in-between. It was a little better than OK for me.

First of all Weston was described as handsome, then several times as beautiful, while she was said described as having a “diminutive frame and nondescript plainness.” Really? Another story where the author expects readers to believe that a beautiful marquess is going to fall for some plain, nondescript female? Beautiful hero, plain girl. Beautiful hero, plump girl, beautiful hero, unattractive girl. That’s not going to happen. If the girl in plain, plump or unattractive then make the hero that way to, at least that would be believable.

Anyway, it would take a lot for me to read CC again, because I wouldn’t know what to expect.

Also, this was soooo dramatic. So much crap about her elopement and how it ruined her reputation, about how she would never be asked for her hand because of it and how she could never marry the marquess because it would ruin his children’s chances of ever making a good match. Good grief, Charlotte was only 7. Like anyone would remember anything about Patrina’s reputation when Charlotte grew up and was ready to marry.

Anyway, there was no sex or swearing in this book but there was desire.

As to the narration: Tim Campbell did an all right job. His male and female voices were great but he didn’t read with any emotion at all. He never laughed, yelled, whispered, nothing. It was kind of a shame. If he’d have added emotions to his reading this would have been 5 stars for him.

    Story
"Waaaay too fast to move the story along"

The story was even worse than the last book in the series. The love builds literally in 8 days for both. Absolutely ridiculous to listen to the hero and heroine's thoughts about the other person and how they "felt" when they barely knew each other. Would have been much better to have made the marriage one of convenience and then built the love after marriage rather than the love admitted to so quickly without basis to make it acceptable. I found it a complete waist of time. Nothing to recommend this book. It was filled with page fillers. Don't waist your money or credit.

    Story
    "Too short"

This was way too short. The story itself was pretty good. I was disappointed in the ending, though. A great build-up and then - poof - it's over. I felt a bit cheated.

I have to comment on the narrator. I have noticed it through this whole series that his pronunciations are way off. He consistently says "MarKESS" for the noble title and the square in London he calls "BERKly" instead of "BARKly." Like nails on a chalkboard to me.

Because I listened to the audiobook I couldn't see the errors described in other reviews but I did notice some errors that a better editor should have caught. I wish I had made note of them.

"Only one problem. It was too short"

I loved it from beginning to end. The author has written a very heart warming story. Tim Campbell is the excellent narrator that brought the story to life.
