Publisher's Summary

This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog's search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, A Dog's Purpose touches on the universal quest for an answer to life's most basic question: why are we here?

Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden-haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey's search for his new life's meaning leads him into the loving arms of eight-year-old Ethan. During their countless adventures, Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a family pet is not the end of Bailey's journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders - will he ever find his purpose?

Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

    "Heart-warming and gripping"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, if they love dogs. The characters of the dog were very realistic and easy to imagine if you know dogs well. I laughed and cried listening... and there were several unexpected twists too.

    "More moving than the movie"

I saw the movie first and was moved to tears several times as were most of the dog loving audience. When I started listening to the book I thought that it would not exceed the emotional experience of the movie. Trust me.. it does.. big time. All dog lovers will appreciate this.

    Story
    "Spellbinding!"

I have never, ever, either read a paper book or listened to an audio book that has had me laughing out loud one moment and sobbing the next and I'm NOT exaggerating about the sobbing!

This has just been such a wonderful experience. I was a former dog owner so a lot of it was particularly poignant for me, but even someone who has never had a dog of their own would recognise characteristics of this wonderful little pooch.

The narration is without doubt the best I have ever listened to. How William Dufris catches the exuberating nature of a puppy's responses and reactions, to the pathos of a grown dog who loves and is loved in return is absolutely delightful.

I thoroughly recommend this book - I didn't want it to end.

    Story
"Can't stop crying but so beautiful"

The narration is just outstanding. The premise of the story is so clever & beautiful. If anyone has ever had the joy of a life shared with one very special dog, this story will tug your heart, play with your head and have you hoping it just could be true. Spookily as the last lines were read, I drove past a dog that was the image of my now departed chocolate lab. Clever, clever stuff. I just need to stop crying now.

    Story
"Rocky audio start, but worth it in the end !"
What made the experience of listening to A Dog's Purpose the most enjoyable?

At first the actual audio was rocky and wouldn't work, so I returned it and re-purchased and then it worked fine. And was it worth the hassle. YES YES YES !!! I was very moved by this lovely story and I liked the performance. It was a cosy, comedy, heart warming story of why and how and wherefore a dog's mind goes along, and if you love dogs, you'll love this.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, of course you do love the dog who is called Toby, then Bailey, then Bear etc, and there are assorted cats, Tinkerbell, Smokey etc. And the humans that stand out are Hannah and Ethan.... as it is their love story at the heart of it all.... but the fave character for me was the policewoman, Mia, who worked so hard to create a help-dog and was something of an unsung hero I think.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

There's an evil old man who abandons the dog, and you think.... wait ... surely s/he can't survive, but then.. HAPPY ENDING... (I don't want to give it away) The most moving scene is when Ethan is close to death and he sees his childhood dog, encompassed in the dog that is in front of him now.... and I think that's the essence of the book.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Love comes with four paws, a tail and fur!
