Tessa Bowers grew up in Liberty, Montana but never knew of the well hidden and very strict rules for married women. If she had, she might not have flirted and set her sights on the wealthy rancher, Cole Bridger.
Cole wasn't a man controlled by anyone, let alone the little spitfire trying to lure him to the alter. He decided who he married. He decided when. So when Tessa shows up for church one Sunday, she enters as Miss Bowers and leaves as Mrs. Bridger.
Right from the start, Cole dictates his expectations of Tessa, who quickly realizes married life is not as she imagined. Willful and disobedient, she fights against the humiliating and shameful things he demands. With the help of the town doctor, Cole begins to train Tessa to be the proper wife. It is a difficult task, but he'd waited years to tame her - mind, body and soul.

"Nothing Tame About This Story"
If I were to listen to this story again it would be in order to listen to the whole series from start to finish. I do think that I might enjoy the series better if I was reading it.
Have not listened to either of these narrators before. I would love to listen to other books that have Ms. Rush as a narrator. But I'm on the fence about Mr. Beroff. In this book he reminded me of my brother which made listening to Taming Tessa a little awkward. I'd have to listen to a sample to see if my mind can be changed.
There was a point where Tessa was sorry for the way that she treated a woman who was trying to be nothing but kind. But was not happy in the way her husband treated her. It makes the scene erotic but for me it ruined the scene.
I loved this story a little more than Claiming Catherine. This one was still erotic but I felt more of a connection between the characters. There is a continued theme of having to use an aphrodisiac in order to have sex. It makes me wonder what type of connection Tessa and Cole would have had without it. Do the men have so little faith in their sexual prowess that they need to trick a woman - especially when we hear how handsome these men are? For those that like anything erotic, then you will be happy with this one. It's a story where it seems to be more about the man's pleasure than the woman's.
I voluntarily reviewed an audio version of this book.
"Steamy Historical Erotica"
Ive read/ listened to many Vanessa Vale historical erotica, and she knows how to write it well. This series is set in a fictional town with unusual marital practices. This book is the second in the series and is deliciously scandalous. With more subservient women of that time period, the premise was easy to sink into... and then relax and let the tingling begin! The entire book was sexy, sexy, sexy. (I thought book one was better though.)
Again, despite the change in narrators from book one, I liked the female narrator but didn’t care for the male voice as much. But it was okay.
If you aren't afraid of erotica and are looking for a spicy audio book, Taming Tess is a great selection. Its quick, steamy and oh so delicious.

"Want to Punish Yourself?"
READ THE REVIEWS for this one before you buy.
I promise you, this is important. Go to Amazon, start at the 1 stars, and if the book STILL sounds like you'd read it, go for it.
The description made it sound like it could be a dom/sub western historical, right? That's how I took it.
READ THE REVIEWS. Oh, how I wish I could spare others. But, if you want to punish yourself for a couple of hours, add this book to your cart.
I love good steamy scenes. I love romance. I love heroes that make me swoon, and heroines I can admire. Since this book has none of these things, you might wonder why I rated the overall with 3 stars. I did it solely because this is great Self Punishment Material. Sick of what you've been listening to? Sick of your genre? In a book funk? THIS ONE WILL KICK YOU OUT OF IT. You'll be making that "dog listening to a high-pitched sound" face, your attention will be pulled from your task, you won't be bored. What went wrong with this one? Well, the story. It isn't written so that it makes sense, it isn't written with a hero so wonderful you wish he'd walk off the page/audio, and even if those two failed, it could have been saved by really good sex - but that's a big fail too.
Let's talk narrators. Rita Rush; your voice is great. Perfect sound, perfect age for the character, you read well, I would absolutely listen to you again - may you find many other opportunities for voice work because you've got what it takes and boy, I felt like after the showers you probably took in an attempt to wash this book from you that you deserved a good break into GOOD stories. Good luck to you!
David Beroff voiced Cole. Poor, poor David Beroff. First off, his voice is nice. Really nice! I should check, but if he isn't a Radio DJ, he could be. He has the Radio Voice.
This was both nice to hear, and odd. Nice because a smooth, pleasant male voice is audibly enjoyable. But odd because he had to read what was virtuatlly a (BAD) porn storyline and he did it using the voice delivery of a game show host. Keep the upbeat tone and emphasis but replace the words from "And weee have a winnnnner COME on Doooownnn!" with "And Cole GRAAABBED her by the arm and HELD her down as he unnnnnbuuttned his..."
I felt sorry he had to read this drivel. But that his voice was matched to this story? ...Kind of odd for a romance book and definitely not the voice (delivery) I'd picture for a domineering cowboy. However, this book is six kinds of strange and the voice is the last thing you'll be blinking at as the story unfolds.
As they introduced more and more characters - a town full of women who keep the secret from unmarried women, of women who are kept naked and drugged - I kept thinking this would make a much better dark thriller. It sure didn't work as a romance. I am all for reading dominant alpha males but you have to have a guy who balances out with caring, tender, charming and Cole wasn't it. And how about the times she tells him NO? He just does it anyway - and it isn't written in a sexy way that makes the listener/reader believe this is just as good for her as it is for him - more like a way that would be serviceable for a villain in a criminal minds episode.
And what was with the odd responsibilities? It'd be one thing if they were kept to have sex all day but to... well, I won't give the secrets away not because I am afraid of spoilering this one, but because I think writing the words out in this review would get me flagged. Just do yourself a favor and READ THE AMAZON REVIEWS, okay?

"Loved it and is very hot!!"
It was a good story! Very hot! I didn't really care for the sucking under the table for punishment part though. Still a very good book!
"Hoped Claiming Catherine Was A Fluke-Tessa Grosser"
Read my review of Claiming Tessa...this is more of the nasty same. Vanessa Vale is going on my Do Not Even Consider List (just started it with her.)
David Beroff & Rita Rush did a good job (3.5 above average) narrating the horrible material. I think there's potential for excellence if given a different author.
*I too was given a copy of this book in exchange for my review. I suspect those with glowing praise (and 1 sentence comment) didn't listen. Read Cyn & ReadMeAStory for an in depth, honest review. Though there are a lot of spoilers.
I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews. But I know that I read the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much.
Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchase a lot of books by well known and authors that I am familiar with. I also have the opportunity to review books in all genres, many that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and narrators.
*Authors/narrators, feel free to use my review to promote this book on Twitter, Facebook, etc. Please link it back here if you can.
"Sad over the top"
I listen to the first book in this series and was so hoping this one would be better. Since I promised the publisher I would listen to both audios I have and this does start out really good until they bring the cork out in church and plug her in front of the members. To really be able to relate to a book even of this type it must first be believable which this is not. Had there been cults back in this time period or even one family maybe it would be a believable story but a whole town that gets off on watching women being treated this way and do not even prepare them for this kind of treatment no way.
This is really a strange weird listen from start to finish. I really wish there was something positive I could post but I couldn’t find anything likeable about this audio. To take an untouched woman and make her stand nude before her brother in laws telling her how things are going to be and they will be helping him take care of her. NO NO they will not be having sex with you, you are all mine but they will be helping with the corks and things. Dom/Sub relationships are based on trust this story was not. First they have to drug their wives up their butts with corks and plugs to even get them in the mood to do the deed whenever the husband wants. Then they have to keep them drugged for the rest of their lives so they can do the deed whenever and wherever they want no matter whatever people might be around. There is no trust this is all about control and getting all they can get whenever they want by drugging the women his reply is I won’t do anything to hurt you or anything you do not like. You already did in church when she begged you not to. I found no romance in this story. This story is not believable yes it is fiction but it is not believable
David Beroff is a really good narrator and does some wonderful audios this just isn’t one of them. You can tell he just isn’t into this story as most of us are not. His tones are off there is no passion in his voice. I thought Rita Rush did a really good job of narration you can hear her surprise, pain and sorrow throughout the listen.
With that said it is just time to take my eyes somewhere else and close this series down. I am sure some will find this highly entertaining. There really is no story but controlling a women by embarrassing her. There is no equal agreement by two adults but men pushing women to do things that if they had a choice would not do.
"Ready for the Next One"
I don’t usually read many books from this genre, but I really enjoyed this one. The narration brought the story to life and held my interest throughout. The story was well thought out, complete and will keep you listening. I will definitely be watching for this author in the future.
