When he agreed to walk away from the lifestyle for her, he never expected she'd subversively push him back into it. Until she did.
After tragedy stole the only man James Barrington looked up to, his perfect and orderly life hit a brick wall. One minute he was the right-hand man to the owner of the company, and in the next he was the boss fighting to stop a hostile takeover the only way he knew how. He needed to marry his late mentor's over-protected daughter, Michaela Donavan, and stay married to her until the threat to the company was averted.
While they were together, James had no intention of disrespecting his in-name-only wife by remaining entrenched in the lifestyle. For the time being, he was prepared to walk away from his Dom-like pursuits. He had to. Michaela was the opposite of everything he embodied. She was soft, where he was hard. Gentle, when he favored rough. She was refined and elegant. The epitome of a virtuous woman, and he wasn't going to do anything to change that.
Circumstances may have forced them to enter into a marriage of convenience in order to keep her father's legacy alive, but the moment that legacy was secured they'd both be free to go their separate ways.
Michaela knew this may be her only opportunity to finally get the one man she has always fantasized about. She's spent years studying him. Idolizing him. Wanting him in a way she wanted no other. And now? Well, her father always told her to seize whatever good came out of the bad, and Michaela was ready to do just that. Heartbroken over what happened, and faced with the task of saving the company, she sees James' sensible offer as the perfect solution. A way to achieve two things she desired most at one time. James may consider this a marriage of convenience, but she's determined to covertly change his mind on the matter.

"My favorite in the series by far!!!!"
Riley Murphy writes so beautifully and always finds a way to capture my heart. I loved the element of surprise she added to the end of the book. It was something really unexpected.
I loved James and Michaela's undeniable chemistry. Kai and Wen performed them perfectly.
I felt so many emotions listening to this book. It made me smile, laugh, and cry. And sometimes all at the same time.
This was my favorite in the Stare Down series by far. I can relate to the story in so many ways. Having special needs children myself, it's hard for people to understand and to explain the many aspects of Autism. The struggle they face each day is sometimes hard to watch as a parent, but each and every milestone they overcome is a tremendous victory. I want to thank Riley for not only writing a beautiful and still completely hot story, but for also bringing humanity to it as well. This will definitely be on my re-listen list.
"Last 3 chapters skip a lot."
I love this series but I'm very disappointed with the pausing. I even uploaded and downloaded the book to see if it would fix the problem... it didn't. I wish I knew everything that happened in the last 3 chapters so I could give it 5 star's. I really liked the book and think it's worth a credit if it would just play. I've had book's skip a word here or there and you can still figure out what's being said... This got to the point of being rediculous and skipped whole sentences. Wenn Ross and Kai Kinnacott did a great job as usual though.
Wow njust when I thought things couldn't get any hotter this happened!!! Another amazing book by this author and another amazing performance by Kai and Wen!!! If you love steamy reads this is on for the list. Tell your friends tell your family tell everyone!!!
"Stare Him Down"
Wow! What did I just listen to, and why did it take me so long to start it?!
Riley Murphy's story is absolutely brilliant! The characters are so well brought out, you would think you are right there in the story with them.
Kai and Web did a stunning job. I don't think anybody could have done a better job with the characters in the story.
This was the first Riley Murphy book for me, but not the first with Wen and Kai as narrators. I swear, Wen could read the phone book and make me melt while Kai would have me in stitches. This is the third book in a series, but it wasn't necessary to have read the others to understand and appreciate the plot/characters. Interesting business plot underlying the interpersonal ones. The twist at the end was totally unexpected. I will read/listen to this again.
Omg Riley Murphy what have you done to me...
Is it so wrong im tempted to go buy a cat custome right now???
So Wen and Kai are 2 of my favorite narrators together they make magic. I kid you not I listen to audio books all the time at work and these two are my go to....
but gesh this audio had me pausing often looking around to make sure none of my co workers seen my flushed face or notice my clenched thighs ((yes its that hot))...
hearing Wen call out Kitty Kitty yup stick a fork in me it was alll over..
Ok sooo lets begin Michaela is amazing I love her a strong intelligent woman who has overcome difficulties but does not let her stop going after then man she loves...
James o sweet sir how i wish I could be your sub if even for a night. James seems like a typical alpha male who happens to be a dom, but hes more complex than that, he takes love trust and loyalty to heart and when he decides to love be prepared.
What I love about Riley Murphy books is there is always a mystery amongst the budding romance and the dom/sub relationship. She leads you on this amazing journey of a who what where when and why as she shows you this BEAUTIFUL side of dom/sub relationship
hot sexy awesome
I loved Michaela. She was determined and wouldn't let anything get in her way.
Stare Him Down by Riley Murphy was a great read. I loved reading James and Michaela's story. Michaela's father is also James' boss. James was his right hand man and knew that nothing could ever happen between he and Michaela. Unexpectedly Michaela's father dies and James becomes the boss. In order to stop a hostile takeover He and Michaela get married. Although they are only married in name sake, Michaela wants to have an intimate relationship. Only thing in the way is the lifestyle that James lives. I absolutely loved reading their story of finding the right person. This was agreed book that I definitely recommend to everyone.
"5 Stare Stars"
Holy freaking Moly, this was a first for me by this author and wow. I am hooked.
James Barrington, wow yummy goodness. I can say that just look at the cover!
He is a stand offish kind of fella. With a different lifestyle then what is classified as the "norm".
He is not ashamed (or should he be ) of his lifestyle he embraces it. So when he sets his eyes on Michaela Donovan he knows he can’t have her one because she is to young but she is also the boss’s daughter. But he got a few glimpses of her growing up and he couldn't shake her from his thoughts.
Michaela grows up to be an incredible women, one she can be proud of but she is insecure as well. But when she sets her sights on James.. He is toast. Or will be she won’t let his standoffish way detour her. She fights for what she wants. She believes he is a sheep in wolf's clothing. The is some a softer side to him.
There are things Michaela can’t or won’t tell James and he is getting right upset about it but because it was from before he doesn’t have to like it but he accepts it.
“A man shouldn’t have to ask for the truth from a woman. If its’s deserved it should be freely given to him.” – James
This quote stuck with me from the time he said it to the end. Because for them it’s pretty much a truth, I believe anyways.
I think what I enjoyed most was how Michaela didn’t jump in blind, she did the work. So she was naive sure but not so much as in experienced. I wondered if James appreciated it.
Over all I can’t get enough of this book I want more, more, more. I was sad it ended. It really has you thinking, not everything is as it appears.
I loved the duel narrations, esp. for books like these. Keeps you sucked it, I didn’t want to put it down not at all.
*All my Reviews are 100% honest and my own.*
"Awesome way to show different isn't bad"
I loved everything about this book. How a female is willing to work through everything and work towards getting what she wants even with people telling her that she shouldn't. How it shows the beauty of a BDSM relationship that people don't see or aren't willing to see when they glance over the lifestyle. I just love so much about this book that I can't just give one answer.
There aren't other books that this can be compared to because I've never found anything quite like it. That's a good thing because you don't want to read the same thing over and over with different titles and slightly changed story lines.
They bring the story to life more than just reading the book alone could do. They give you all the emotions of the books through their voice and paint such a wonderful picture with the story that you just get lost in their words.
Throughout almost the entire book I was either laughing or smiling at the antics of Mickey throughout the story. I loved the character she brought to the story and how she just came across as a normal person throughout the entire story instead of someone who sounded scripted.
As I've said before I just loved this entire story and it was a really amazing story to listen to. I loved how it just all flowed so smoothly and how it brought the story to life in my mind as if I was really there or watching a movie.
"Stare Him Down"
I've loved all of Riley Murphy's stories, but I think this series has gotten progressively better with each book. Stare Him Down is my favorite of the three. I loved both the main characters and liked the little character twists Murphy added near the end. It added depth and realism to the characters.
The story was focused on the romance but had a suspenseful subplot that I enjoyed.
Murphy's great at highlighting a different type of play in each of her books, but I especially loved the pet play in this one. No one is more eloquent at describing the beauty of BDSM than Riley Murphy is, and Kai Kennicott and Wen Ross are the perfect narrators, delivering a wonderful performance every time. They make each audiobook an experience.
I encountered some annoying skipping midway through the story, but after I deleted the audiobook from my phone and re-downloaded it, the problem was fixed and it played perfectly.
