"Heart-pounding and intense"
Much like the first book, this was an extremely difficult read/listen for me. Given the subject matter is about sex slaves and human trafficking I don't believe it was meant to be an easy-going listen. But in some strange way it was a happy story with a satisfying ending.
This book was intense, emotional, dark, disturbing and all together wrong! However, I absolutely loved it. (not sure what that says about me the listener). All the twists and turns and OMG moments were amazing. I loved the flashback and flash forward storytelling in this one. At first it made my head spin but in the end the pay-off was so worth it.
Definitely worth a credit in my opinion.
"amazingly twisted, a complete mind-f**k"
This story mortified and captivated me. I literally found myself holding my breath thru certain parts of the book. Seduced in the Dark continues the story of Livvie, kidnapped and being trained to be sold at a sex slave auction to satisfy the vengeance of her captor. My tummy was in knots and more than once I felt physically sick with the anticipation of what was about to happen. Caleb and Livvie's journey definitely one of the most gut-wrenchingly difficult, brutal, thought provoking and emotional books 've ever listened to. There were moments I thought I couldn’t go on but I'm glad I did. The Dark Duet series gives you a world of many twists, betrayal, sex, love and captivating characters.
"Great book/Terrible Read"
I am sending this back. As a highly anticipated pre-order (the digital book was terrific; I read it twice), I was incredulous at the narration. I tried to listen several times since I downloaded the book after midnight and just cannot take it. I thought I could 'get used' to the narrator...just not gonna happen. She is flat; her vocal of the female lead sounds much older than the character is and her vocal of Caleb is simply wretched. So, what could have been a magnificant interpretation of a really strong, dark and powerful book is absolutely lost. Make me very sad.
"Very Very Good"
This book had me in tears it was so moving I loved this story this book was also well written. I know Caleb did some awful things but Livvie loved him and god help me so did I don't know if that qualifies me as an emotionally sick women but I could not help but to fall in love with this man. As much as I wanted to hate him and watch him hurt. He was a monster but he had a heart and it was an internal battle for him, Livvie was his savior. I am so glad that they were finally able to be together
"So different from the fist book......"
This book is the continuation of the story that begins with Captive In the Dark and is written very differently. My one complaint while listening to this book was that is jumps back and forth between the past and present to tell the story. It essentially starts at almost the end then guides you between then and now which can be difficult to keep up with when listening vs reading. The story of both books centers on Livy a young American who is captured by Caleb to be trained and sold as a sex slave for revenge. Being that this is a very concerning subject matter in todays times, I was curious and a little concerned about how the story would be handled. C.J. Roberts does a good job of giving the reader a glimpse of this lifestyle but I did find some of it a little off-putting. She does a good job of handling the psychological side of kidnapping and submission but keeps the female character strong and you want to root for her as she falls in love with her captor. Caleb, the kidnapper and trainer starts off as hard in the first book and softens as the story moves along. Of course at the end of the day, everyone ends happy and in love. Sorry if I gave it away, but it is the truth after all, you expected it and its why we all read romance :). I did find at times I could not put down the story because I kept wondering what was going to happen next. There is some sexual violence against both men and women in this book, it is not for the faint at heart. Read with caution, enjoy the romance, but don't be surprised at anything you might encounter on your journey though captivity and seduction.
"And you thought Fifty Shades was fu$$ed up!"
I can't help it, I loved this creepy, grotesque, revolting book! Intense is too mild a word to describe this story. Fifty Shades is playtime compared to this. Like Fifty this book is the evolution of Caleb from the dark to the light and it really works. Violent and very explicit sex scenes here...not for the squeamish!
"Best Series I have ever read"
These two books captured my attention for three whole days. I was so captivated by the first story that I immediately bought the second one. I stayed up all night listening to the first one because I couldn't put it down. I only paused it long enough to take a shower & blow dry my hair because I couldn't hear it over top the noise. Otherwise I listened to it non-stop. I cried, I laughed, I chewed my nails in anticipation and the sultry sex scenes were just an added bonus. I cannot more highly recommend these two books. They are not for the faint hearted though. But the fact that some of the areas of the story are so disturbing is what made me bite my nails in anticipation.
"Intense and seductive"
Yes! Everything I wanted from the second book and more. I couldn’t put this book down and found myself bailing on plans so I could finish it. This book, much like the first, is intense, dark, extremely disturbing, emotional, and filled with none stop OMG moments. Some scenes were hard for me to listen to. But given that the content is about sex slaves and human trafficking I don’t think the author meant it to be an easy light hearted read. The story is told with a lot of flashbacks and flash forwards that I really enjoyed. It was a little hard to fallow but well worth it in the end.
Yes it was worth my credit.
"Can't wait for Epilogue!!!"
The top! I loved these books and the audiobook does not fail.
Emily Durante takes on a challenging accent and I feel she delivers.
Probably something with the Little Red Riding Hood theme!
Can't wait for the Epilogue audiobook!!! Love to see who they will have voice Caleb!
"Couldn't put down"
Yes. The content of this book is dark but I love how the author (C. J. Roberts) took on a subject that unfortunately takes place in our world and didn't make it "pretty". I can't read books with vampires and the shape changers because I struggle with how could that possibly happen. I know it is fantasy. You can follow the ups and downs of the characters. Emily Durante is talented.
