Loves fantasy and sci-fi books, particularly vampires, werewolves and magic. Totally in love with Jamie Fraser (Outlander) since my teens!
I bought this book having never read anything by this author before and was a little unsure at first... I agree with a few other reviewers who thought that the use of 'Buffys' and 'Slayers' was a little iffy but carried on listening anyway... I'd paid for it after all! By the time I finished this one I was intrigued to find out what would happen next so bought the next one too... then the rest of the series and the first book of the connected series - I'm hooked! This book is perhaps not her best but her writing improves as the series progresses. I can totally recommend the series, click the buy button!
The plot is reasonable, and well enough written for its genre. Decent characters and world creation. My issue is that the sex totally takes over the book and reads like soft porn with a bit of supernatural action and romance.
Whilst in the same vein as the 'Black Dagger Brotherhood' (which i love) this book has missed the mark for me.
"What an awesome surprise - WOW"
I tried this series as i liked the preview sample and i am so glad i did. This is an awesome book that i didn't see it coming The story is fabulous and kept me very entertained till the very end. What an excellent job Larissa Ione has done. To top it all of Cassandra Campbell has done the best job with the narration. I have purchased the rest in the series and the second book is as good if not better than the first. One of the Best series i have listened to in ages but be warned that this book includes lot's of wonderful hot sex.. :).
As usual the first in the series is the best (I've jut finished book 3)... I really liked it for a number of reasons, firstly because it didn't revolve around vampire culture- How refreshing!
Secondly, the sexual tension burned from the first to last page.. Hot! Thirdly, strong but vulnerable characters written into a smart paranormal story with a good amount of action, laughter and moving moments. I also loved the authentic, cultural sounding language... "Haven spell" and "dermoi" (I'm just guessing how to spell that) just to name a few. Im a bit over the series now.. But this one is worth the credit I think. Oh yeah and the narrator was pretty good too.
"Funny. Sexy. Quirky."
The dialogue and story was well written. The men are sexy and the women kick ass. Ione is now a new favourite to my choice of authors.
