Reacher as we all like him

Jeff Harding brings Jack None Reacher to life for me. His voice embodies what I think Reacher sounds like!
In this story Reacher is making his way to Virginia to meet with Susan the MP major he spoke to on the phone. His detour into Nebraska brings him into the sights of the Duncan family who have ruled the community for years. Bullying and controlling the people who dare not say anything out of turn.
Reacher hates bullies but what does catch his interest is the 8 year old girl who vanished 25 years ago.

top notch reacher

I have listened to most of the reacher novels. Lee Childs is a great storyteller, and this one would be in my top 5 for sure.

My favourite so far.

I’m listening to the Reacher catalogue in order, and so far, this one has been my favourite!

What a story . . . . what a story!
lee child at his absolute best matched with a home run, sb winning TD performance from Jeff Harding.

Reacher at his uncompromising best and a twist to match that brought about an emotional rage from myself.

Worth Paying For

I'm not a particularly avid reader of thrillers and hadn't heard of Lee Child until I saw a TV interview of him in relation to the Jack Reacher film released recently. It piqued my interest so I thought I'd have a go at a Reacher novel when I saw this in an Audible special offer.

I have to say that I did not regret my choice; I found this to be a great listen, with action from start to finish and a story that unfolded very nicely over the length of the novel.

I suspect that this book will not be for everyone. Child's characterisation of Reacher is very spare and he is definitely a man of few (or no) words; many conversations within the book develop along similar lines with the same phrases re-used in only a slightly modified form. Child also has a methodical and detailed approach to defining the actions of his characters; one example that stands out to me is when he describes Reacher adjusting the driving position step by step in a rental car to accommodate his large frame. None of this bothered me however, in fact I found Child's style of writing to be both distinctive and enjoyable. I also felt that it suited the story and the nature of the characters within it while helping to keep the narrative moving in a way that made me want to find out what was going to happen next.

Reacher is such a capable individual that he never really seemed to be in genuine peril, but that didn't detract from my desire to find out how he was going to bludgeon his way through the next set of bad guys.

The plot of this book and some of the descriptions of the violence within it are not for the faint-hearted, but it didn't feel especially gratuitous considering it is a thriller aimed at an adult audience.

Jeff Harding is a great choice of narrator for this book. He made the characters distinctive and his pacing of the dialogue felt like an excellent match for Child's writing style. It certainly brought the book alive for me.

All in all, this book provided pretty much everything I hoped for when I handed over my credit - an impossibly tough guy dealing out retribution to some very bad people - excellent escapist fiction.

Pretty good

Good story, good characters, driven at a decent pace. One stand out scene for me was the meeting with the young pot head in the middle of a thicket somewhere in a large field.... it made me laugh at its surreal nature.

Great listen

My first selection from audible turned out to be a brilliant choice. The descriptive narrative made it feel as though I were there in the action. The storyline drew me in and I couldn't turn it off. Excellent.

Great listen as always.

I do find Jack Reached to be a bit of a busy body. Sticking his nose into other peoples business. But I do love the stories.
