Publisher's Summary

Someone is stalking webcam models.

He lurks in the untouchable recesses of the black web.

He's watching you. Right now.

When watching is no longer enough, he comes calling.

He's the last thing you'll ever see before the blood gets in your eyes.

Chicago homicide detective Tom Mankowski (The List, Haunted House) is no stranger to homicidal maniacs. But this one is the worst he's ever chased, with an agenda that will make even the most die-hard horror listeners turn on all their lights and switch off all Internet, Wi-Fi, computers, and electronic devices.

Jack Kilborn reaches down into the depths of depravity and drags the terror novel kicking and cyber screaming into the 21st century.

Webcam by Jack Kilborn.

I'm texting you from inside your closet. Wanna play?

    Story
    "a nice surprise"

went out on a limb on this one buying it a bit blind. I was pleasantly surprised to find it quite enjoyed this book. got my fair share of shudders and goosebumps (near the start in particular) and found it quite a nice balance of story, violence, gore and plot. love the modern theme to the book as well (other then the Web cam girls but I don't wanna give anything away). was very refreshing. the reading I found a bit odd at first with the sound effects for phone calls and such but soon got use it it and came to enjoy them. very good book and well read!

    "Somebody's Watching Me"

    HORRIPILATION
This is the second book I have read in as many weeks, which show the horrors that can be done with modern Technology. As in Endurance, Afraid and Trapped the horror is extreme, but unlike these books, we get a good look at the characters in this one. In parts this is a police procedural and the characters are fleshed out much better than any other Konrath I have read. I particularly liked the main character who is a detective with a bad credit rating. His girlfriend is not real understanding of the time he must spend at his job, and they have decisions to make about their relationship and their careers.

THE CHOICES YOU MAKE, NOT THE CONDITIONS YOU WERE BORN WITH
There are actually some deep thoughtful situations discussed, including Intersex. Konrath also gets a little political about drugs and law enforcement.

REMOVE THE COCK, REMOVE THE SIN
Like most books by Konrath, this is full of sex. This one is especially brutal, including the mutilation of male and female genitals. I found some of this hard to stomach and it may be too much for some readers.

    I really liked the narrator.

    Story
"the narrator's voice was absolutely horrible."

the narrator's voice was absolutely horrible. I couldn't even make myself listen past the first chapter, and the voices that he did were absolutely pathetic. His attempt at speaking like a woman was just embarrassing, and honestly, an insult. I will never get to know how great this story might have been because of this narrator.

    Story
    "J.A. Konrath Nails it Again!"
Where does Webcam rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This book would fall within the top 25% of horror related books I've read/listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The IT computer guy from the police department because he added some good comic relief.

Which character – as performed by Bob Walkenhorst – was your favorite?

    More than one person narrated?

Who was the most memorable character of Webcam and why?

Kendal the sorority psych student with a million psychological issues. She was memorable because she was so messed up in the head but wasn't so messed up at the end.

    Any additional comments?

J.A. Konrath books don't usually disappoint. I love how the characters in his novels intertwine. It helps having those familiar characters that you start to love having knowledge of their background from prior novels.

Well done horror story without over the top blood and gore. The Vantablack and dark web aspect of the story was really great. I had to lookup that Vantablack compound after hearing it in the story. Really cool stuff, wish I could buy it. The spider crown was definitely an awesome touch to the story that left me cringing. The author does a good job explaining how seemingly impossible paranormal events in the story are possible.

I didn't notice any down time during the reading. The story line kept moving fluid and remained entertaining throughout. Definitely a great read!

    Story
"The Narration Made an Average Story Worse."

Huh? What's wrong with the narration, you say?

If you listened to the sample, you'd say, "He reads with passion.Scene sounds exciting. What's the problem with the narration?". Well, the problem is he reads the entire book this way...WAY over the top....The entire book...all 8 and one half hours...

Kinda like listening to loud heavy metal for 8 1/2 hours, when a truly excellent horror/thriller should read like a symphony... soft violins, then, Bam!...timpani rolll into frenetic strings/horns...then gentle woodwinds, etc... Toooooooo much intensity.

If that wasn't bad enough, much of the story dialog is "spoken" through text message or chat room typing, so the narrator chose to speak in stilted, "typed" speach, rather than conversational tone...sounding more like Stephen Hawking, robotic speach.

Between the intensity and the bad phrasing, I could barely get through this story. The story, itself, was only average. You don't really care about the characters, whom were all very cliché.

If Audible chose a better narrator, this would still only bump this up to a 3 star read, for me.

This was the only book I've read by this author, so maybe I'm missing something (character development in other books?). This book does not work well as a stand alone, if that's the case. There are better thrillers out there for your credit/money.
