Publisher's Summary

What secrets from the past was he about to uncover?

When a woman's skeleton is discovered in a shallow grave, DCI Andy Gilchrist is tasked with finding her murderer. But a psychic's warnings and markings on a rusted cigarette lighter found among the rotted remains set Gilchrist off on a trail that will take him back 35 years - back to his past and on course to find his brother's killer in a fatal hit and run accident.

When dental records from an extracted tooth force Gilchrist to confront the unthinkable - that his brother was her killer - he keeps his fears to himself, only to be suspended on suspicion of destroying evidence. But Gilchrist battles on in his quest for answers. Who was the woman? Why was she murdered? And was the fatal hit and run really an accident?

About the author: Born in Glasgow and now a dual UK/US citizen, Frank is a crime novelist with the first two books of his DCI Andy Gilchrist series published - the first, Eye for an Eye, won the Pitlochry Award for the best crime novel by an unpublished writer, and the second, Hand for a Hand, continues to garner great reviews. Frank is now working on his next Andy Gilchrist novel, another story suffused with dark alleyways, cobbled streets and all things gruesome.

    "Great series so far"

Loved these books having now read all three in the series currently available on audible. Really like this narrator and hope they will stick with him in future books in the series. You do need to read them in the correct order and will certainly enjoy them all the more for doing so. They are pretty clever books with enough twists and turns to keep you listening late into the night. Like Gilchrist and his sidekicks and would hope this series will continue to delight as the charactors are developed further, So far this author puts me in mind of Caro Ramsay who I am a great fan of.

    "Well written and well read"

I enjoyed this very much from the plausible and exciting plot to the way the narrator brought the characters life. Each character was given a perfect voice and the ending had me unable to turn it off. Start to finish it was an exciting and twisty, turny plot and I thoroughly recommend it.

    "Best one so far"

This is a high quality series and this is my favourite so far. Lots of twists and turns, a further development of Gilchrist's personal story and a fiendishly difficult crime to solve all brought to life with excellent narration.. It simply ticks all the boxes!

I enjoy reading but never find the time to pick up a book so Audible has been a great find! Addicted to good detective crime books!

"Great book and very easy to listen to"

Thoroughly enjoyed all 3 of these books and narrator very good- made it very easy to listen to and get into the book with the accent! Read in the wrong order but i don't think it really mattered. So glad I found these- really looked forward to switching on- shame there aren't anymore to listen to.

"First book from author for me - choice was totally random, due to others write ups."

I was really enjoying tale - till the last two hours ( other than the not too good welsh accent - but easily forgiven).
Confusing, unbelievable n feel let down by end...

"Simple well paced and an excellent read/listen"

I find the pace and simplicity if the story compelling with just enough twists and turns to keep you on your toes. the explanatory nature of some of the text is endearing as the story line is often hard to take.
The narration is excellent and totally in keeping with the story.
Will continue to listen to this series
    Excellent book

    "an enjoyable ripping yarn but...."

Whilst i did enjoy this book very much given the superb and compelling narration by David Monteath, the novel was rather slow to get going and once it did it became really more and more implausible. that marred the entertainment value.
Quite a few situations and relatioshops are not explained to the reader or badly so, and as someone else commented the last couple of hours were disappointing - again, too much that the reader needed to know was left unsaid and unrevealed. I really felt that an editor had either rushed Muir to deliver the novel or had been far too liberal with the red pen. Or perhaps Muir just couldn't be bothered to complete the novel satisfactorily.
If these holes were to be filled out in the start of book 4 then I might be more forgiving but this book itself failed to tie up ends from book 2 so I am not expecting book 4 to major of continuity ad respect our curiosity.
Shame - this could so easily have been the best but ended up disappointing.

    "Nicely wrapped up"

I enjoyed this book more than the last one in the series. Even though it involved his family again because it was so far in the past it was satisfying to know that it was solved.
