This was Linwood Barclays second book and i found it as good as the first. If you enjoyed too late for goodbye you should enjoy this story. Hard to put down once you start, plot kept me interested and guessing until the end.
I enjoyed this author's other book 'Fear the Worst' but thought this one an even more riveting story. From the very first chapter I was gripped and wanted to know what happened next. As with most thrillers you have to suspend belief a bit as one awful event follows another: life isn't usually as eventful as that of the Cutter family whose life is turned upside down when their neighbours are gunned down.
I thought the reader did a good job.
I read the first book in paperback, but got the audiobook (unabridged) for Too Close to Home. Initially I was a bit unsure of the narrator, but very soon I got into the book and was gripped. Ive just put his new book on my wishlist!
It worries me that despite being unable to kill a fly I have a rather macabre love of mystery, murders and suspense.
Addictive listen, I find it absorbing, but not to taxing on the brain. Good narration
The story is really quite interesting until the last third, when it becomes steadily more convoluted and unlikely. The denouement I found unsatisfactory, it was all too messy and over complicated. The dialogue was heavily punctuated with the 'f' word, which was tedious. All in all, a bit of a disappointment, apart from the narrator, who was excellent.
Odd, full of mystery and pretty obscure at times. Gripped with a lot of intrigue and secrecy, all because of a book.
This is my 2nd Linwood Barclay book and I'm downloading my 3rd right now. This was again original, thrilling, kept me interested from start to finish and the main character was very believable. The narration was excellent.I listen to my books in the car and found that I didn't want to get out of the car so I could keep listening.
I am a fan of Lynwood Barclay, I have never had a bad book by him. He keeps you guessing right up to the end.
An ordinary family have a tragic murder next door. They then realise that it was all a mistake and the murders were at the wrong house.
The family are in danger and realise this but they still investigate.
Its very fast paced and plenty other storys come together.
You also realise that they are oridnary people but have secrets of there own.
My favorite character was the killer because you wont guess who he or she is and I won't spoil it.
I can't pick a favorite scene as it was all so good.
Give this book a try if you love thrillers but its quite scarey to listen to at night
