As the newest murder squad recruit for Mildenheath CID, DS Wendy Knight knows that she will face the unthinkable, but what she does not anticipate is that a sadistic killer may be too close for comfort.
When a known prostitute is found dead, Wendy is assigned to the case. Solving it means that she will have to outwit and outsmart an elusive serial killer. As her investigation unfolds, so too does a sinister plot that will turn her world upside down and make it increasingly difficult to distinguish friend from foe in her tightknit world.
Could the murderer be hiding in plain sight?
Will the answers she seeks be more than she can bear?

"Too close for comfort"
1st in the Knight and Culverhouse series. A fast paced read that will keep your attention to the very end
Once again, Nigel Patterson, did a great job with the narration. He is very easy to listen to and has a clear and concise voice.
Now the story, this is my second book by this author and again, I find myself disappointed. The story felt very rushed and the characters were just there, they didn't appeal to me, nor did I find they developed at all. I knew who the murderer was pretty quickly as well.
This book got a lot of bad reviews that I don't think were deserved. The writing was decent, the plot was okay and I was entertained. I didn't much like one of the detectives and I thought the other was a bit on the slow side but that actually may be a sign of good writing rather than bad. I would read other books by the same author
I was given this audiobook in exchange for an honest review
"Really enjoyed this!!"
The story is a good one. I think that Knight and Culverhouse could have had a little more background explained (especially why there is so much animosity) and character development. I was not really surprised on the 'who done it', but, the ending felt rushed, to be honest. I do recommend the book, however, as I did enjoy the story. This is my first listen to Nigel Patterson as the narrator. I thought his narration was very good. When it was simply narration of the story, or the 'goings on', he kept my attention. His character voices were really good and it was easy enough to keep the people apart while they were talking. I am looking forward to more from both this author and the narrator.
"A Great Book and a Great Performance"
I daresay this is Nigel Patterson's best performance to date. He brilliantly narrated each character providing the emotion and personality of each in a flawless way. I was never left wondering who was speaking, even though he never used individual voices.
I love this story because not only is there horror, my favorite genre, it's also a crime drama and even has a few funny moments thrown in. I eagerly look forward to book 2. Adam Croft and Nigel Patterson make a great team.
"Too Close for Comfort by Adam Croft"
I listened to the audiobook version very well narrated by Nigel Patterson. The book was only 3 hours long in this format. I found this to be a very short, easy read that felt too predictable. While the storyline was interesting it lacked the flow I hoped to find. The story felt rushed and the ending seemed like an afterthought. I would have rated it higher but the characters lacked depth which made it difficult for me to like any of them. Having said all this, I plan to follow this author as I believe he has a great imagination and a talent for storytelling.
"I loved it so much, I listened to it twice"
Yes... I've already listened to it again. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and the narrator brought the whole thing to life. The second time around I listened not because of the story, but the way in which it was read. Did I mention that I loved this work so much, that I listened to it twice in less than 24 hours?
My favorite character was Nigel Patterson. The man brought each and every character to life, with just subtle voice changes. He didn't reach for over-the-top theatrics... he simply told the story in his own voice, yet I never once became confused as to who was speaking. Brilliant.... absolutely Brilliant.
Adam Croft, and Nigel Patterson are the perfect pairing of Author and Narrator.
