Deep in the steaming jungles of Paraguay, Aimee Weir is in trouble. The petrobiologist has found what she was looking for - a unique microorganism in a natural gas deposit - but it proves to be more destructive than anyone could have imagined. A contagion is striking down all in its wake. The camp is quarantined, but workers start to vanish in the night.
Is it fear of contamination - or has something far more lethal come to the surface? Something that has been trapped beneath the miles of stone, waiting... for us.
Alex Hunter - code name Arcadian - and his Hotzone All-Forces Warfare Commandos must be dropped in to the disaster area to do whatever it takes to stem the outbreak. It has been a year since Aimee has seen Alex; she thought she had left him for good. Now she needs him more than ever.
In the sweltering jungles of South America, the Arcadian must learn to master his violent inner demons for this rescue mission to have any chance of success. But can he survive long enough to confront the danger that threatens the very survival of mankind?

"Greig Beck returns to the world of Alex Hunter with great gusto. As with the other books there's fantastic research woven into the story and it seems Greig really loves to throw together facts from all over the place and mix them with a generous dollop of action and what-if. It's a winning combination [and] what gives this story real depth and interest long after the current threat is put to rest, and it's what will make me rush out to get book four. This Green Hell is a smart, delightful read with a big heart. Four Stars." (Keith Stevenson, publisher and editor, Coeur de Lion Books)
"Danger, disappearances and contagion follow Dr Aimee Weir's important discovery in the Paraguayan jungle. Author Beck piles on the action and suspense. In a word: steamy!" (Gold Coast Bulletin)
"Greig Beck is Clive Cussler meets Matthew Reilly - Violent, visceral and very, very good fun" (Australian South Coast Register)
A tautly written, intense, scary, wonderful jungle adventure. Utterly satisfying: monsters, heroes, transformations, soldiers, betrayals.
This Green Hell sucks you in and leaves you ready for Beck's next book.
In my opinion, a Guaranteed great download for fans of Michael Crichton, Michael Cordy and James Rollins.
"Green Hell raises the series to another level"
Green Hell is the third in the Alex Hunter series and by far the best, the series has always taken a slight horror element nothing to scary more Sci-Fi but Green Hell certainly cranks the horror element up a notch in the creepy factor, again not really scary just darn creepy in some parts.
I'm not sure the series is quite unique taking a enhanced soldier up against nightmarish creatures with also a little techno thriller. I would suggest you listen to the series from the beginning, you don't have to because central story elements are slightly retold from book to book but you really need to get the low down on some of the characters that show up in each book, there are not many but it still helps.
Sean Mangan is terrific like he was manifested just for this series, his character accents are perfect, his female voice great and his delivery and pace is some of the very best I've listened to.
If your reading this then you are indeed considering this to listen to, well look no more and buy it because it is better than you are probably imagining.
"Reilly, Rollins, Cussler ....."
If you are a fan of Matthew Reilly, James Rollins and Clive Cussler (and I am of all three) then you will enjoy Greig Beck's Alex Hunter series. I refer to this gendre as "Doc Savage stories"..... IMO, the original Mega-Hero.
Hunter is sort of a Bionic Man.... special ops Delta/GB on steroids - battling assorted evil alien beasties.
I really enjoy this narrator too. Check'em out!
Loved it, couldn't stop listening to it. I liked the characters and the story line, it never grew dull, it was fast paced without losing details. I also enjoyed the notes about what some of the background materials and articles the author used for the story.
"the suspense the storyline are fantastic"
the office did a super job of tying in the characters the store in line and the reader did a fantastic job bring it all together
I loved it, can't wait to hear the next one. this series is so very cool, and I love that it is researched and speckled with facts
"Better monster, better Alex, smoother story"
This was a much better story than books 1 or 2... mainly because the monster was a bit more realistic (and the monster here was different from those in the first two books, which were very similar to each other) and the non-monster storyline (i.e. the search for gas deposits) was believable. Alex Hunter was also more believable than he was in book 2 where he brushed on the edge of supernatural (yes, he did here too, but it was a *bit* more understated).
There really isn't much else to say. If you read the first two books and liked them, you should like this one at least as much. If you didn't read the first two, well...I don't think you really need to in order to follow this story, it is pretty much standalone, although Alex is a recurring character. There is no sex, I don't recall any swearing, but there is some intentional gore (which I didn't think was as over-the-top as intended).
Beick has smoothed out a lot of the rough edges and I am planning to read the next book in the series. The story is wrapped up here (no cliff-hanger), but the future of Alex Hunter might be questionable...
"A little disappointing"
This book started out quite promising and I love Alex Hunter but somewhere in the middle of the book things slow down quite a bit. I'd really like to see a little more emotion from Alex however, and more interaction and maybe even a little romance to spice things up. I have to admit I put the book down for a number of months and finally just finished it. The ending was OK and leads us into the next book. I will probably read the next book which sounds like a better plot then this one had.
"Totally HOOKED! Actually losing sleep over these!"
You, Greig, have a great imagination that is right up there with the best of the adventure writers. And the narrator, Sean, is perfect for your stories.
Dear Listener, listen to the first one of the series before this one. I must admit I skipped the second one but will go back and listen to it (I ordered the 4th one today!). I just wanted to keep Amy and Alex together, but being addicted to Alex and the gift of Greig's writing, well..I will do them in order..and you need to..they don't read independently in my opinion, but you can and still get a thrill of a story! I think you'll lose sleep too!
"Alex Hunter is a great character"
but her deserves a better segue into the next chapter. love this author, but if I heard laser sharpened steel one more time I'd have had to kill myself with a kbar
If you enjoy Jonathon Maberry or James Rollins then this is a series you will enjoy. Good story, fast paced action, likeable characters. I have enjoyed the other books in this series and am looking forward to the next book.
