In London, ex-cop Vincent Ruiz rescues a young woman from a violent boyfriend but wakes next morning to find that he’s been set up and robbed. As he tracks down the thieves, he discovers the boyfriend’s tortured body and learns that powerful men are looking for the girl. What did Holly Knight steal that is so important to them? Meanwhile in Baghdad, the bank robbery capital of the world, billions of dollars in reconstruction funds has gone missing and Pulitzer prize-winning Journalist Luca Terracini is trying to ‘follow the money’. The dangerous trail will lead him to London where he teams up with Vincent Ruiz and together they investigate the disappearance of an international banker and a mysterious ‘black hole’ in the bank’s account.

Safe but still difficult to put down

The Ruiz / McLaughlin stories by Michael Robotham have become my favourite series of audio books from Audible in recent years. The characters are historically flawed and have many human traits we all mirror to a certain degree which makes the stories more credible. I thouroughly recommend The Wreckage. Although the fliting between London and Iraq was initially irritating if you know the author you also know that all will be revealed, which it does seamlessly. Another terrific read albeit a little safe and easy on the ear thanks to the superb narration of Sean Barrett.

Wonderful

Once again Michael Robotham writes a great book. He is one of the writers I wait for.The narrator brings it to life. Really enjoyed this book.

Good, enjoyable story

Really enjoyed this book, you get to understand the characters well and they are believable in a British flawed kind of way. Not too deep that you need to work out all that is happening, but deep enough so you have a good story.

The book moves at a good pace leaving you with always wanting to listen to more.

Sean Barrett does an excellent job in putting over the story.

All in all a good enjoyable book

Spellbinding.

What made the experience of listening to The Wreckage the most enjoyable?

Sean Barrett's rendition. It is a very well written story, well up to Michael Robotham's standard. It is difficult to know which I enjoyed the most; the plotline, or Sean's reading of it. I have read paper versions of Michael's books before and thoroughly enjoyed them but, let's face it, there is nothing quite like being read to while walking the dog, or weeding the garden, and Sean Barrett is a name I am always glad to see.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Wreckage?

Thesimple explanation of how Banks work, and how they manage to justify their extravagance with the truth and their kind of honesty. The descriptions of a violence ridden Iraq was very vivid.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Probably Iraq.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Follow the Money.

Any additional comments?

Just a very good, lively thriller. Michael Robotham is joining people like Gerald Seymour in my reading of this type of book.

Absolutely brilliant

One of the best from Robotham - great plot using actual events to add depth plus a cast of well drawn characters, all presented by a fantastic narrator.

An excellent book

This is great story well written with believable characters brought to life by the narrator. Once it gets going it gets harder and harder more to put down.

A walker’s paradise

The only thing missing in this magnificent story is the ability to concentrate on the beauty of one’s surrounding landscape.
I’m unaware how many miles I’ve walked completely immersed in Robotham’s maze of characters, scenarios & plots. All completely clear & navigable.I am so grateful to this author for hours of pleasure & painless fitness ! What will I do if he stops writing??

Not his best.

I've listened to every book in the series, but this one wasn't the best. A little disjointed, and I nearly gave up! Not much of Joe in this book, and it was definitely a Vincent story...Glad I stuck with it in the end. Excellent narration helped. I will certainly try the next one.
