Summary

The Simple Truth is a tense courtroom drama with a fast-paced plot from best-selling author David Baldacci.

As a young conscripted soldier, Rufus Harms was jailed for the brutal killing of a schoolgirl. Yet after 25 hard years of incarceration, a stray letter from the US Army reveals new facts about the night of the murder - and the evil secret shared by some of Washington's most powerful men. Fearful for his life, Harms seizes his one chance to escape. But within hours the only people who knew about the appeal have been hunted down and eliminated.

As the unknown assassins close in on Harms, ex-cop turned criminal attorney John Fiske is drawn into the web. His younger brother is already a victim; the woman he loves is under threat. For the truth and the chance of a future, he will never give up the fight. But for both men, time is already running out. Their enemy is buried deep within the system and completely ruthless when protecting the truth....

Lots of twists and turns

I enjoyed this book and the narrator definitely added to that.
It has stood the test of time fairly well

Well written and perfectly narrated. I couldn't get any sleep until I finished the book. What a thriller! Good for anyone in a stressful job needing to switch off

Baddies are very bad and goodies believe in God

This book is for people who like a clear difference between the baddies and the goodies. It is made clear from the start which is which so there are very few surprises except towards the end when the author may have thought that it was a good idea to turn one of the baddies into a goody. It also became clear that to be good, it is important to believe in God and know your bible well. A small bit of sex was added to spice things up but it was, generally pretty predictable. If you like your stories without too many surprises, this one is for you. The narration was OK but sometimes moved from one character to another without pause so took a few seconds to realise that the scene had changed. Unchallenging but possibly OK for a long flight or holiday read.

Brilliant

Had everything I enjoy in a crime thriller, the characters had depth, the plot intriguing to the end.

A brilliant story

I felt that the book started more slowly than the usual Baldacci but it then took off and never eased up. The intricacy of the many threads interwoven in story were actually very subtly prepared by the clever opening chapters. Whenever you felt smugly that you had worked it all out, you would proven totally wrong every time as the plot shot off in another direction. A brilliant story that was so good to listen to because it is also brilliantly read. Thank you.

Always enjoy Baldacci

Another Baldacci book I've enjoyed listening to. The reader is also very good with the voices, accents and speech nuances.

A good book.

I am a fan of David Baldacci.
Of all the books I have listened to, this one was the least of them.
I liked the story though, but the reader was a bit dry.
