The Safe House is a scintillating psychological thriller by the Top Ten bestselling author, Nicci French.
You open your home and your heart to a victim. But your house is anything but safe....
Samantha Laschen is a doctor specialising in post-traumatic stress disorder. She's moved to the coast to escape her problems and to be alone with her young daughter. But now the police want her to take in Fiona Mackenzie, a girl whose parents have been savagely murdered. Yet by allowing Fiona in, Sam is exposing herself - and her daughter - to risks she couldn't possibly have imagined.

Not sure I would listen to it again, I enjoyed the book for the most part but found it too long by about half, a little repetitive and it was if the authors didn't know how to come to a conclusion and when they did I felt frustrated!
I normally love Nicci French books and especially those I have purchased from Audible, they are usually easy listening with a compelling edge.
I don't think I can fault Lucy Paterson, she read it brilliantly.
I didn't listen to this in one sitting but I did finish it in a two day period.

I adore many Nicci French novels, keep you on the edge of your seat. I found the reader good as well. If you enjoy suspense and crime thrillers you need to listen
At the beginning it felt like a Police procedural. Then your whisked on emotional rollercoaster. Great Character development even greater story telling. Gentle yet Brutal too!
Really enjoyed this. Hiccups French fans won't be disappointed. Not as gripping as some others, but a compelling story
Enjoyed the book overall- have read so many by this author.
Sadly the ending was just annoying so may avoid future books.
What a pity....
Narrator let us down in a few places as didn't seem to get the male voices right. Storyline a bit weak as guessed ending half way through and then the story started to drag.
The actual story has some very clever elements, however nothing is explored to any depth so as a listener you do not have any buy in to the characters. This is also not helped by the narrator who insists on doing accents to the full, the child voice is particularly grating and the Spanish one could be from the 70's comedy "Mind your language"
The ending put me in mind of the stories my Children used to write, they start off with such promise but invariably end with "Then i woke up" this is short hand for I got bored.
I am a fan of the Nicci French Team, i love Freda Klein so was expecting the same high standard, this felt like track 6 of a good album, just filler
EVERYTHING!! It was so boring, didn't care what happened in the end.
I am listening to The Dying place.
the narrator was ok
the author needs a rest this book felt lazy and half hearted
