For two thousand years, the Triarii have protected us, influencing history from the crusades to the discovery of America. Descendent from the Roman Empire, they pervade every level of society and are now in a race with our own government to retrieve an ancient artifact thought to have been lost forever.
Caught in the middle is archaeology professor James Acton, relentlessly hunted by the elite Delta Force, who are under orders to stop at nothing to possess what he has found, and the Triarii, who are equally determined to prevent the discovery from falling into the wrong hands.
With his students and friends dying around him, Acton flees to find the one person who might be able to help him. Little does he know, he may actually be racing directly into the hands of an organization he knows nothing about.

"A classic conspiracy theory story"
Historical background is reat, performance is strong and the overall story is compelling. There was just some tweaks that I found irksome. If I could give it 3.5 I would have.
The story got off the rails occasionally, but overall not bad at all.
More background on the key theory.
Nothing stood out, but all were good.
SyFy Network only
This is a reasonably decent presentation. Nothing awful, but nothing that stood out as remarkable as well. This author will likely get better in this genre i suspect.
Thrilling from the get go. Im a big Jack Reacher fan and now a James Acton one. Kennedy kept me on the edge of my seat.
grabs you about 10minutes in and never lets up. The president going crazy plot line was a bit much to swallow but I accepted it for the sake of the story and once I did, I almost never thought about.it again. downloading next in series or by author.
"just the right amount of tension"
I listened to the unabridged version and enjoyed it a lot. This story starts grabbing before the actual telling with the prologue. Although it was long the characters were distinct, the story was tight with enough background to be provacative. There were a few places I had to just buy what was being sold but it worked and I listened to the end.
"The Protocol Bk 1"
I was hoping for more archeology and less chase scenes, but it is what it is.This story is about an archeologist who has a team in Peru that digs up a crystal skull. There is a holy order that has kept the skulls safe for hundreds of years,a corrupt government agency that wants it and MORE!Who will get it and how much terror will unfold is for you to find out.A good book.R.C.Bray did a fine job with every voice he did.
"I was provided this audiobook at no charge by the author in exchange for an unbiased review via AudiobookBlast dot com."
"If you liked The DaVinci Code you will love this!"
I was gifted this audio book for an unbiased review of The Protocol. I had just finished The Martian narrated by R.C. Bray and was so very impressed with Bray's delivery that I was anxious for another riveting audio book, and I got it with this one. I read some of the book reviews and they do not necessarily apply (like too many exclamation marks!!!) because the audio was so well delivered. The tone and inflection corrected or covered what one may have found in the novel.
The story grabbed my attention very quickly and kept it there. I found it a bit confusing until I realized that there are multiple activities occurring at the same time. Each location jump is announced by a short JFK Airport, N.Y., The Himalayas, Nepal, ... and gradually, one by one, all the time lines neatly converge. I particularly enjoyed the fast pace of both action and speech. No time or words were wasted and yet one knew exactly what and how all was progressing.
All the characters were well done. The back grounds of the Delta force (and all other non prime characters) were expertly slid in and thus rounded out even minor people.
For me there were a few hiccups. Other than the possibility of an explosion, the skulls had no power or talent or mythology. The initial attraction between James Acton and the London Dr. seemed awkward (but as I do not read romances I am not sure how it could be done better). The final results of the protocol were way over the top and the London scenario was a 'reach toooo far'. It really took the story down from very good to UH?
I fully expect that this book will be made into a movie. The last chapter after the dust settles and Acton is back to the digs is nicely done. Review by Evi
Gripping, intense thriller of a story that grabs you and won't let go! Can't wait for the next installment!
"Action & mystery"
Great read. Plot moves along quickly.
Great narrator. Good voice.
Yes, to keep the characters straight in my mind.
"You have GOT to hear this book!"
Here is a great action/adventure novel with lots of surprises, believable characters, guns and ammo, helicopter/car chase, madness and mayhem. Move over Indiana Jones! Hoping for the next book soon!
Audio performer is my new favorite. Superior voice quality, terrific character delineation, emotional variants well portrayed. This artist is no ham-bone, but very well suited to a fast-paced novel like this.
